I've tried one in non lock down mode and it is very similar to the Playbook, the swiping from the bezel etc. I liked it but I'm waiting to see what the Q10 is like. The Demo mode can be turned off by the shops although you have get them to do this which might be difficult if they haven't already done so.

9930 on Verizon here. I've had 3 DROIDs and came back to the 9930 every time.

Can't beat the battery life and keyboard. If I want entertainment, I have a tablet for that.

Yup:

The BB is for communications.
The Galaxy Tab 2 is for amusement.

9780 here. I'm wondering what the Q10 will be like. Can't even imagine using a phone withut a keyboard. What were they thinking by releasing the Z10 so much sooner?

As my grandma use to say - "They should have stuck to their knitting".

Quite a bit of buzz that Ford has dropped Microsoft and will adopt Blackberry for MyFord/Sync2 auto connectivity/infotainment in 2015.

Traded-in an unused (as in collecting dust now) 9780 for $200 at T-Mobile for a Galaxy S4.

You get $250 if you get another BB device. A new Q10 will run you about $260+tax after trade-in credit.

I took advantage of this to get a new Q10 and give my old one to a new ex-Android convert.

I'm excited to see the Q20. Return of the trackpad for precision selection and call / end keys.

Are there no pictures of the device? Google can't find anything.

Not yet. Just announced the project at Mobile World Congress before they released the Z3. All images out there are unfounded "artist concepts" and photoshopped Q10's.

...and I was going to stop by T-Mobile to trade an old 9780 for a shiny new Q10 with a $250 discount... nw perhaps i'll wait... or perhaps I'll do that and check out a Q20 if/when they arrive as I'm not going to be able to wait until the second half of the year. Besides, I've still got other BBs here waiting to be traded in... choices, choices...

I am very happy with the Q10 now that I have OS 10.2.1 on it. After I installed that there was a little bit of work (not bad) to install google play services and google account manager, and then to side-load the Snap market (which downloads android apps directly from google play and installs them). You can skip the first two if you don't want apps that use Android's google login, but I needed google maps and google voice to login properly. Also downloaded the app for my credit union, Google Translate, Tripit, Ebay, United, Zoho CRM, and Amazon. They all work great.

If you get a Q10 let me know and I'll upload the APK files I used to get started. After you get the google account services and Snap installed once then you won't have to worry about this stuff again.

10.2.1 also brought better lock screen notifications, configurable quick menu options, and a few other nice things. Too bad T-Mobile has delayed their release of it for another month while they work out WiFi Calling but you can always install the general version without WiFi Calling for now.

The problem is that it's a "limited time offer". Rumors are it will end 3/14, but I didn't want to risk losing out.

Thinking about buying the following device for international travel. Need a phone, under $100, for calling and texting only. Not concerned with data.

Largely, I'm wondering how widespread this phone would be able to be used...

Looking for max coverage throughout the world. Traveling international 4-5 times a year, anywhere from Japan to China to Peru to Colombia to Middle East or Europe.

My primary phone is an iPhone 5, which I'll use when I'm under WiFi. Plan on buying country-specific SIM cards and throwing them in the phone.

That phone would be pretty widely usable for calling / texting. Data is where things get dicier.

That curve supports:

GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100

According to this chart, it should handle at minimum 2G in every country listed
