Nespresso

I swore I would never buy one as I have a really nice gaggia machine for making "proper" coffee, but my wife recently bought me a nespresso pixie machine which now travels everywhere with me

It's been to France, Dubai and Cyprus with me so far, as well as to a few weekend trips in the UK

I even got the travel bag to protect it, then I put that inside it's very own wheelie bag padded with lots of socks which I check in.

I can't live without it now, it's so convenient albeit expensive for the pods! Now my gaggia is gathering dust and will probably end up on ebay sooner or later.

Is it just me or are there others out there who take their nespresso with them everywhere they go?

Wait - you like your coffee so much that you travel with a 9 pound machine to make it?

Yes, I do. It's a shame they don't have UK power sockets on board BA aircraft either (go figure) otherwise I'd take it on as hand luggage and use it onboard too

Sorry, but I just can't drink airplane coffee or those silly sticks of nescafe they give you in hotels
I also refuse to pay $6-7 plus tray charges and then wait 1/2 hour to get a luke warm coffee from room service.

Some decent hotels are catching on and putting nespresso machines in their executive rooms. It seems silly not to now that the simplest machines retail for around $100 and still make a perfect espresso.

love my nespresso at home and my gaggia is gathering dust under the stairs but I think you're certifiable to carry it with you everywhere!!

Have you thought about one of these Handpresso machines? Either the one you fill with hot water or they do a rather nifty one that works off 12v in the car. With the hot water one, presumably you could ask the cabin crew on a plane for a cup of hot water or ask them to fill it directly in the galley?

I guess I am just not that into coffee. I will drink whatever usually. So the Nespresso machines are that good? Will I be looked down upon if I have a k-cup machine?

I actually semi-gave up Starbucks for Nespresso - I calculated how much I'm spending at Starbucks every month - turned out the ROI on a machine was just 1 month got a nicer Delonghi machine for home, and moved my trusty D100 to the office.

PanGalactic, you are not alone. I, too, travel with a Nespresso almost weekly. I also have one in my office and one at home.

In the Nespresso catalog, they have the travel bag as an available item. I've always wondered who actually travels with their machine - I assumed it was Europeans who go on their months-long vacations.

How cool to hear from someone who does!

I do like that newer/nicer hotels have Nespressos in the rooms. I always find that to be a nice touch - makes me miss my just that little bit less

I'd rather drink the local brew than carry around a 9lb paperweight that would only see use in my hotel room in the morning.

YES!

I'm so happy I'm not the only one!

Anyone else care to come out of the closet?

I'm not a coffee drinker but I have been known to take a load of hot chocolate when travelling if I know there won't be any or it will be tasteless.
