Hmm? My iTunes music can be exported, burned to CD, etc. I've added it all to my Amazon and Google online music storage.

I like the Apple iOS because it lets me use music (and books and related viewer/player Apps) from Apple, Google, Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Thanks, that I didn't know

I had seen this on a website a day or two ago as part of a story on the new maps app. Gave me a chuckle. Very well played :)

I'm sticking w/5.1 for the foreseeable future. And I must say, honestly, it's paused my planned upgrade to iPhone 5.

Has anyone noticed a big battery drain problem with IOS 6? There are lots of reports of iphone 5 battery drain issues and I'm having the same problem. I don't want to update my old iPhone 4 if it is really an IOS problem.

Regarding maps, Google Earth works fine on IOS 6 and looks excellent on an iPhone 5.

Regarding Youtube, check out Jasmine at the App store. It's seems to be the best Youtube client you can get on IOS. ^

That's all well and great, I don't think anyone has asserted that Google Earth was broken. However, Google Earth isn't the same as the Maps App, that's why they are two different apps. The use case might be similar, but in my case the two apps are utilized for related, but still distinctly different purposes.

My daughter and I both update our iPhone 4s (not 4Ss) and the battery life seems to be similar to what it was before the update.

Thanks. It seems to be mainly an iPhone 5 problem. There are loads of posts on the Apple Discussion site of people all over the world complaining about how fast the iPhone 5 drains power. Even sitting idle with the screen off and all the apps killed it drains power. I find it quite surprising that none of the Apple pre-launch testing noticed this.

Apparently the Nokia mobile website does mapping very well. I just read about it here http://allthingsd.com/20120924/nokia...-map-web-site/

Surf to m.maps.nokia.com on your IOS or Android device.

Argh... I upgraded my 4th gen iPod touch to IOS 6 and now when I go into the app store to search it crashes. :( :( :(

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks, good info. And as discussed up thread, people can still use maps.google.com in the same manner that you mention (via a browser).

Unfortunately, as I mentioned upstream, though perhaps better than what Apple has provided as part of iOS 6, this is still a fairly poor solution in that so many iOS apps make direct calls to the Maps App (e.g. OpenTable, Yelp, etc.) for bringing up an address or location, that you really lose some of the elegant integration. Having to copy addresses, open up Safari, go to maps.google.com or m.maps.nokia.com, paste in the location, etc. is a real pain from a usability perspective.

I'm not an "Apple Fanboy" but have been a satisfied customer of their mobility (iPhone/iPad) products for several years now, but in my opinion, this Maps deal is a pretty material mistake in the user experience, which Apple generally implies is one of their highest priority.

It has definitely given me pause; I had intended to purchase iPhone 5 out of the gate. Honestly, LTE was all I really cared about (I really don't care about many of the other touted features) but at this point, having a net + for LTE, but a significant net -Maps, has given me complete pause.

For really the first time ever, there is a real possibility that I will consider an Android/Samsung phone for my next purchase.

I wouldn't turn you away from the Samsung S3 as I think it is a great device. I stuck with the iPhone 5 due to laziness because I know the Itunes/IOS environment well, but it was still a close decision.

But I am sure that the same functionality that we used to have in IOS 5 will get reproduced in IOS6, either through Apple fixing their maps or someone else integrating their Maps app into IOS 6.

That's the thing - GOogle is rumored to have an iOS 6 Maps app ready to go. Apple has rejected such apps from the iTunes store in the past because they don't permit apps that duplicate "core iOS functionality".

So we'll see if the Google Maps app shows up.

I have noticed that iOS 6 also skips a lot when playing music to an AirPort or Apple TV.

Seen the new commercial for Google Maps that hit the web recently? It's deliberately poking fun at just about everything Apple screwed up in its own app. Wish I could find a link to it. If I were them, I'd sit on it for a few weeks while everyone stews, and then ride in to the rescue.

They softened a bit on that. Google Voice is available on iOS. If a phone isn't core iOS functionality, I don't know what is. :D
