PC World - Dump Internet Explorer until Microsoft issues patch

The full story is here

But even if you do need to use them (there are several sites for example we need to use it for), click through to the Microsoft page and follow the steps they outline to better protect yourself until they get the patch out.

The Microsoft Security Advisory from yesterday is here

I only use it for the very few sites that don't support Firefox anyway.

Yea. I haven't used it for years either. If I site won't work with Firefox, I'm not seeing it. Although I suppose I would try Chrome or Safari. But I can't recall running into a site that I couldn't see with Firefox, although there was a thread here a few years ago about such a site if I recall correctly.

One site doesn't really give us much of a choice--the online pharmacy her insurance wants us to use.

Ouch. That's too bad. I fortunately haven't run into that.

I've already downloaded and installed the MS EMET tool. I use IE only for the web-enabled corp page that allows us to get email. It'll also work for FF but the layout is totally screwed up.
