Concierge service from your local landline provider? What is the term for it 1st?
I thought it would be a good idea to get local info to the country you travel to (and also a cheap pay per use option) is to use the concierge service of local landline providers - is they speak English but why not? smart people work in this business. Instead of trying to rely on a bug expensive concierge company to know everything of every place.
Any experiences with this approach?
Some countries have it - some don't. But what is the term for it first of all? "landline concierge" and similar searches does not give many results on Google.

AT&T charges $4.35 per minute for it's Language Line services. That's $261 per hour.
Others are as low as $50 per hour.
It's sort of a no brainer to not use the local telephone company in this case.

That sounds better. Which company is it?
I thought if you have a request which you can clearly communicate you are really time efficient. They may even provide you an answer in e-mail of fax (LOL) so you don't waste minutes.
Heck, with the local phone company you at least don't waste that much money as with providers like Quintessential (I just read the many horror stories with that one) and you surely get local knowledge.
Other option, pay as you go: WEXAS Gold membership, GBP 165 a year for 15 requests for TenUK (I read that horror stories as well )
That is GBP 11 per request. (If we don't count the other bells and whistles that come with the Gold membership such as the Travellers Handbook - GBP 19 - and Priority Pass Standard.)

What type of requests do you have in mind? I believe the telephone company services are focused on language translation, not on providing information.
