2011 was a very good year at the place I work, and they gave everyone a free playbook last week. Any suggestions for travel apps? Also has anyone had any luck jail breaking one of these things and loading a new os?

Best idea? Sell it any buy an iPad. The playbook is a dying tablet. Sell it while it is in new condition.

Are you a rabid Fandroid? I was giving realistic advice to someone to look at the number 1 selling tablet before wasting money on a dying product.

Keep an eye out. There's new stuff everyday with OS 2. I can hardly keep up with the new stuff (typing this on a Playbook).

I love my Playbook.

An iPad may be a nice piece of kit but it's too big to carry around all day and I don't need access to millions of apps. The PB is just about the perfect size, the new OS 2.0 has fixed a lot of the limitations with the first release and with prices as low as $199 (£169 in the UK) then it's possibly the best value tablet out there.

Will there ever be a Playbook 2, 3 or 4? Or is it a dead end to invest in?

The release of OS 2.0 shows that RIM haven't given up on the Playbook yet (as HP did with their tablet). They totally messed up the launch in terms of product, marketing and pricing but they seem to be recovering now.

The Playbook is no iPad but the iPad is no Playbook either. First of all the Playbook has a much more appealing pricing than the totally overpriced iPad. Second the Playbook is getting continuously better and is developed further. Third RIM is not joining the almost religious like battle against flash like Apple. I like my Macbook but when it comes to iPhone and iPad Apple goes too far. The patent war against Samsung and the Galaxy Tab shows the ugly side of Apple which I don't want to support.

You never know. HP dumped their tablet while the launch-support TV ad campaign was still running. Lea Michele from Glee was still singing about them on network spots while they were being price-cut and remaindered. And then I look at the overall stability of RIM, and the free-fall they're experiencing in smartphone share, and wonder if it's a horse you should ride right now.

Most iPad competitors except for the Samsung are at risk of overnight arrest I think.

Rather than tell someone to ditch a brand new tablet, maybe try to read up on the latest developments, first?

My advice is to buy the best product that works for you. The Playbook is a deadend product that will die a natural death within the next year. The MARKET is saying that the best tablet to buy is an iPad, as tens of millions of people have spoken with the wallets. My original suggest was and is valid, ditch the Playbook and look at the best tablet out there, which the MARKET has said is the iPad.

At the current prices, I'd be tempted to buy a second. Love the multitasking.

Spoken like a true believer. Too bad you didn't answer the OP's question or give useful advice on how to get the most productivity out of his free Playbook.
