After two days....
I got my Playbook on Thursday, and I'm extremely satisfied. I can't wait for Blackberry 10 in a few weeks, and hopefully all the improvements that will come with it.

At the hotel I'm currently staying at I was doing an e-rewards survey when the owner of an iPad mini asked me how I was doing that given it was Flash based. I explained and he looked at his tablet with distain and asked where I bought mine.
Been using my 32gb PB for a year and a half for training sessions and it's sweet. The remote control feature on my BB 9780 really makes my presentations easy. Anxious for the BB Z10 next month too. I prefer a physical keyboard but judging by the YouTube reviews so far I think I'll be able to conquer it with my fat thumbs. |

My advice is to buy the best product that works for you. The Playbook is a deadend product that will die a natural death within the next year. The MARKET is saying that the best tablet to buy is an iPad, as tens of millions of people have spoken with the wallets. My original suggest was and is valid, ditch the Playbook and look at the best tablet out there, which the MARKET has said is the iPad.

Looks like I was off by a few months, but the Playbook has been killed off by RIM.

For the money they really are hard to beat, a 64 gig one is $181 at Amazon. The media player is very nice, and great as a Kindle reader if you sideload it.
It has HTMI out so you can also watch your movies/videos/shows on your TV. I'm guessing it probably will run BB10, but the specs on the device are on the low end of what it needs, and Blackberry doesn't need an underpowered device out there to get even more bad press. My experience with Blackberry is the device works exceptionally well with the software shipped with it. Minor upgrades are OK and things run well. When you go to the next version of software the device never works as well as it did with the earlier version. To get new features you pay with some performance issues. I'm not bashing Blackberry here, I just got a Q10 and really like it. It also is the first device that I think is actually way overpowered with the current software. I am using a fraction of available memory and a lot more loaded on to it than my old Bold that was struggling to keep up. The new crop of Blackberries do seem to be powerful enough for at least one major software upgrade, and I'm guessing the dual core processor on the Playbook could easily run this version of BB10. So while I would like BB10 on my Playbook, I understand why I will never get it. Also guessing Blackberry is losing so much money on every Playbook it sells. I think retail for the 64gig was supposed to be $600 and you can get it for $200. Hate to think what customer support costs would be for everyone who wants to upgrade to BB10. While it is by no means the fashionable tablet to have, and to load android apps you have to do some work, for the money you aren't going to find too many tablets that are as capable. |
