The worst part of the new iPad? It means speeds on Verizon's LTE network will go down the crapper...

Just upgraded my iPad 2 to the new iPad. Went wifi only as my phone acts as a hotspot, my logic was the screen upgrade makes it worth the cost to change.

Ultimately I use my iPad as a means to consume content, improving the quality of content presentation (ie res and colour) makes it compelling.

iPad as a HotSpot / Tethering

See my revision to my thread above.

REVISED - approx. 1 1/2 hours after original post -
REVISION - MacWorld on the Twitters (crediting "The Verge) is saying that Verizon will support tethering and that Verizon will not charge additional for tethering and that AT&T will NOT repeat NOT support tethering.

Or a brand new iPad 2 - apple will continue to sell at lower price points. ^

On the UK Apple Store the iPad 2 16GB is £329 - only £70 cheaper than the equivalent for iPad 3 so not much of a saving. I do see iPad 2 falling in price but how long will they be available for as you cannot now only buy the iPad 2 in any size greater than 16GB from Apple directly.

Annoyed about AT&T not supporting tethering, but I hope I can transfer my "unlimited" (yeah, I know) account to the new iPad. Maybe AT&T will see the light when Verizon sells more iPads, and change their plan.

Just realized, Sprint is apparently not supported for the iPad like it was for the iPhone 4S?

More competition the better. Those data plans could come down in price.

£70 is $110, to me that's a decent savings. Apple also selling refurb at nice price points: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

If you have iPhone 4 or 4s, JB with Cydia, then buy 'tetherme' [not MyWi] to tether! Works great and network can't see it so can't block it.

If ATT is going to not enable tethering and VZW is going to without additional cost - then I hope VZW outsells ATT and they feel the hurt.

My dad will be putting in an order for the 64GB wifi and probably selling the iPad 1 16GB wifi. I'll be sticking with my iPad 1 until iOS support goes away for it.

I intended to buy a refurb iPad 2 when the iPad 3 was launched.

I will be purchasing the iPad 3 (or New iPad) sometime this month. I am such a sucker for new shiny things.....

I think you're making the right decision. I think the screen will be amazing. And if you don't already have one, might as well get the one that is just launching. At least you'll have it for awhile before the next 4th gen one.

Have iPad2, not at all impressed by "the new iPad"... will wait for the next iteration (especially as this one doesn't offer 4G/LTE support outside the US anyways)... Seems a good rule of thumb with Apple products is to buy the alternate versions for a substantial improvement in specs.

I have a Kindle Fire, no iPad at all. My clunky little web browser on my KF made me super envious of my girlfriends who have iPads. The Kindle Fire purchase unfortunately made me realize that I want a real tablet! I must have faster speed and a better screen, I must keep up!!

March 16th..... :D

My brother bought a Kindle Fire, despite my encouragement to buy an iPad. Now that he and his wife has iPhones, I think they realized they should have followed my advice. Fortunately, my dad is upgrading so I think an iPad 1 is in their future and a lightly used Kindle Fire is in Craigslist's future.
