I started with a Mophie on my 3gs, but after it died i switched to cheap Chinese models. I am still using ones from China ordered on eBay. I have supplied them to family and friends. I usually pay $8-15 dollars apiece. I have a external battery attached to my iphone every day. The mophie is only a 1500 mAh, most of the Chinese are 1900, and some are 2100.

Maybe so but as a result of this thread I am probably going to get a Trent tomorrow and maybe a Morphie as a result of the posts that followed it. Great suggestions, the Duracell charger I have doesn't last very long.

FYI, I have one of the larger Trents but I usually only carry it on Transpacs. For routine use the Morphie is great because it is a case too so I just carry the phone in its case and don't have to carry an additional item.

Take a look at the PowerMonkey Discovery as an alternative product for charging an iPhone. Thoroughly recommend it. Use it all the time.

I use Mili Power Spring 4 (2000mAh) for iPhone4 and Mili Power iBox (8000mAh) for iPad2. Never had an issue with them. Haven't tested the iBox completely. The iphone battery charge lasted me atleast 1 full week without recharge. I do play games and listen to music, not much of video.

Haha, Monoprice has a habit of making their users brand ambassadors. I liked the battery pack but when I upgraded to the 4 it stopped working...so my guess is since there's no way to flash these puppies, remember that you're purchasing them for the single generation you have. Although for $12 it's still a good deal, cheaper then a decent case.

If the external battery has a built-in dock connector or cord that doesn't fit into the iPhone case you use, one option is to get a dock extender like this one. I use one with my Lifeproof case, though admittedly it adds additional stress/flex points when everything's connected together.

does anyone know if the external battery that is the same size of the iPhone is the same for 3-3G and iphone 4 and 4S
there were some on sale last week but they were for 4 and 4S and I as not sure if they would fit on my 3

I started with the iPhone 3, moved to a 4 and now have a 4S. I have always used an external battery pack. I put one on every morning, and by bedtime I am usually still at 80-90% on my phone battery. I also leave a charged battery in the car, usually check the charge once a month.
I buy all of my batteries on ebay - usually paying $9 to $12 each, with free shipping. These batteries are all 1900mah - about equal to the phone battery.
All no-name from China.
I have given away at least a dozen to customers, good PR. And every one that I have given away is being used daily.

I just ordered a couple 1900ma external battery packs that mount on the bottom of the iPhone or iPad
they were on Ebay for $6 each shipped from China
I also ordered a plug in SD card reader that also has a USB imput port for less than $5
I would just like to have enough power to watch movies etc on the iPhone if I am stuck somewhere

I use a Phonesuit Primo Power Core external battery. 8200mAh, similar in size to a 1st generation iPod, will fully charge an iPhone 4 times before needing a recharge. Will also charge a 3rd gen iPad as well.

I can't find the one I bought, but it was very similar to this one only a bit smaller. They have a whole heap of no-name brand battery packs that are very cheap. The one I got doesn't give a full charge (more like half for a 4S) but it's very small and has a dock connector. So I can just stick it in my pocket if I think I'll be using my phone very heavily that day and then top up the battery while I'm on the go.

The real value, though, is what that extra battery life can allow you to do. Especially now that the majority of commercial airlines have made Wi-Fi readily available for passengers, time spent traveling can be nearly as productive as time spent in the office working.
