I recently had a problem with an Iphone 4S on my plan not accessing the data network.
I could call and receive calls, texting worked fine, wifi was fine, but when not on wifi, I got an error that could not connect to network, even though the 3G symbol was lit up on the device. It looked like it should work, but didn't.
I have Verizon service. So I went through several steps. First, I ended all programs (double tap home screen) and then held home and power button down to reboot. That didn't work. I tried flipping on and off the wifi switch, still no dice. I flipped any switch I could. Then I called one of the numbers that activates a smartphone, that didn't help.
Furstrated, I called up Verizon customer service and told them what I did so I wouldn't have to jump through hoops. First level CSR escilated me to a Tech. He checked on some things and still no go on the network. They then esclilated me to the network team. Two hours later I get a call back from them to check to see if it worked, and FINALLY i was able to surf on the phone on the 3G network.
I talked to the network tech to try to find out what went on. All he told me is that the problem was on their side, and nothing would had fixed it on the customers end. Something about the profile for the phone to hook up to the network had to be changed. Would have been nice to know the exact issue.
I at first though it may have been the phone, but it was something with Verizon. Could be a similiar case here if you can't get it going.
