Slingbox
During my travels, I watch US shows from my Slingbox in the States. Does anyone know of software, I’ll even pay for it, that would allow me to record the feed on my laptop for later viewing?

A better solution would be to have a PVR at home, built into your cable/satellite tuner.
But yes, there is software that can record what's on your screen. It's resource heavy and the quality isn't that great. I don't remember what it's called.

Audials Tunebite can capture streaming video in a web browser. If you use the browser-based Slingplayer software, you can capture what view. Note, however, that the Tunebite software will not work when the video is played full-screen, and you are, of course, limited to capturing the maximum resolution of your display, less the "real estate" consumed by the browser's frame.
One of my home computers has a 1920 x 1200 screen, permitting HD-quality captures (720p or near-1080p) and resulting in quite acceptable captures that look excellent when played on my 47" HDTV. This computer is a quad-core, however, with 8 Gb of RAM and a fast RAID hard drive. I haven't tried Tunebite on a laptop. I would suspect that, with a laptop equipped with a reasonably powerful CPU and an HD display, you'd get quite good results, more so if you just want to "time shift" and watch on the laptop.
I'd agree, however, that a simpler solution is to attach your Slingbox to a DVR.

I have successfully captured the slingstream on a mac using the built in screen capture in Quicktime, starting in Snow Leopard. The files can be scaled, but are pretty large all together and best NOT done in full screen, but it works for capture, later viewing and repurposing.

I forgot to add that the new monsoon vulcano boxes and associated iphone/ipad apps allow recording and pausing on the streamed content. So, you could so turn on your ipad at home, or outside the home, stream a show (or set it up to stream at a certain time) and then it will record the show to your smartphone or device, but it has to be the active app. This of course doesn't work with slingboxes, but the new monsoon products are pretty cheap at 100$ (and 13$ for the IoS app.)
