I forgot to add that the new monsoon vulcano boxes and associated iphone/ipad apps allow recording and pausing on the streamed content. So, you could so turn on your ipad at home, or outside the home, stream a show (or set it up to stream at a certain time) and then it will record the show to your smartphone or device, but it has to be the active app. This of course doesn't work with slingboxes, but the new monsoon products are pretty cheap at 100$ (and 13$ for the IoS app.)
