Setup a VPN and then you can RDP to any windows computer on your network. Added benefit is that it's hundreds of times more secure than simply leaving a port open or running TeamViewer.
OpenVPN is free and runs a few routers out of the box. Most others you can load dd-wrt or tomato onto. Or you can be an uber-nerd like me and run a software router like PFSense that supports OpenVPN.

Splashtop for Business is $60/year for up to 10 PCs. It works well enough, but Logmein Pro at $99/year for 2 computers is a more mature and stable product. I use Splashtop for a nonprofit I support and sometimes it kicks me out - something that rarely happens with Logmein. I do a lot of remote support for a lot of computers and am probably more demanding than someone who logs on remotely a few times per week.

However, as repeatedly noted in discussions on the interwebs and in the Google support groups -- and has happened to me several times -- the remote desktop on the host machine inexplicably goes offline.
That's why I added TeamViewer. The last time I had to deal with this, I was able to to login to my computer with Team Viewer, and disable and re-enable Chrome Desktop. But at least once, that wasn't enough and I had to entirely delete the extension and reinstall it.
I like Chrome Desktop slightly better, but TeamViewer is much more stable ime.

Time to break out the whisky. I'm looking for a free remote desktop program to assist an older relative with a tech issue.
1) Free
2) Dead simple to install - "target" computer user (75+ y/old) couldn't even install or run Skype.
3) Windows 10 for "target" computer, Mac OS X 10.9.5 for me remoting into "target."
4) Screen view, keyboard and cursor control.
I think I was using LogMeIn in the past but it's been a long time.

While I like Chrome Remote Desktop better, it's propensity to go offline and have to be reloaded on the target computer (well-documented in many complaints) is a non-starter, given your criteria.
The one I use almost daily and have never had a problem with is TeamViewer; free for personal use.
