Sorry to be a continued pain (not sure why Google makes this so hard, when folks like Logmein can make it so simple)....
I did make sure the service was set to Automatic. I re-booted and then checked. The service is shown as "Stopped."
It was Stopped before I opened Chrome and it is still stopped.
Will it run if I try to initiate a Remote Desktop connection from another computer?

No idea. Did you search through this incredibly long thread?

without trying to be a "smartass" ...
have you:
1) uninstalled and reinstalled to see if the problem persists?
2) checked any firewall or anti virus that you have that could be blocking it?
3) gave up completely on a PC and moved to a Mac? (I have it installed on my dad's mac, and I always remote in without hassle... never tried on the PC's as I gave them up long time ago...) (ok, #3 was being a smartass, sorry!)
Good luck!

any current recommendations for remote desktop software for the following situation?
An employee at a company I am involved in will need to begin working remotely from another city (illness in the family and needs to be closer to hospital in another city etc). Given the individual's situation we are interested in setting them up to work remotely but arent sure which software is the most suitable.
The company only needs to get access for this one person so interested in a simple workable solution where they can login from a remote PC and get the full functionality of their office desktop without causing any security issues.
I've used gotmypc and logmein for my personal computers in the past and some heavier duty corporate systems on my work computers but wanted to tap the knowledge of FT as I am not all up to date on what options are out there.

I've been using LogMeIn to access my home computer from work. I use the free version, which has some limitations, but the paid version allows full access to my entire computer, just like if I was sitting at home.

Really enjoying my new Lenovo x131e.
Have installed Chrome Remote Desktop on my home computer and on the x131e. When I tested it a couple of days ago it worked great. But today, the x131e's Remote Desktop tells me that my home computer is "Offline." It's not.
I've done some Googling and have tried some things (e.g., update extensions in Developer mode) but still can't get the home machine to show onlne.
Anybody have any wisdom?
