Question on sim card
Hi guys,
I am going abroad this weekend and have an old TMOBILE BB 8900 that I no longer use as I am now a sprint customer. Will I be able to use this phone in Europe by popping in a new sim card? Thanks for your help.

I don't think Tmobile will unlock a phone that no longer has service on it, but I may be wrong. They are not fast, you have to put in a request and in my case it took four or five days for them to send the code. It's worth calling and asking them.
I am not familiar enough with the blackberry unlocking to know if others do it easily or not, somebody else will chime in soon I'm sure. Some phones it's as simple as putting in the number on the back of the phone and software generates an unlock code for them, others not so easy.

Only if the device has been unlocked. More than likely it is locked to T-Mobile USA.

Tmobile will unlock it as long it's their phone. The owner of the phone just has to be a current customer in good standing. The phone does not necessarily have to be on the account. However, as already mentioned, it will take at least a couple of days for them to get you the code, so I'd suggest you do it via ebay or another 3rd party.

just google for unlock blackberry, you'll find a lot of third parties providing this service for around 5$

You can first check if it is, in fact, locked...let me see if I can remember how to do it.
1. go to Options - Advanced Options - SIM Card
2. hold down ALT and type MEPD
If the "Network" line is "Active", then the Blackberry is locked. If it says "Inactive" or "Disabled" or something to that effect, it's unlocked. Easiest way to know for certain is to put a non-Tmobile SIM in it and see if it rejects the SIM or not.
