Internet script errors in hotels and airports
Many times when I'm in a hotel or airport, I get a repeated script error message on the home page when I try to connect to the Web: "Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" or something like that. (The error message is way too long to copy.) Usually I hit yes or no (it doesn't seem to make any difference which one) a few times and it goes away. But sometimes it never quits and is so bad I can't use my laptop without rebooting--and I have to use the power key instead of the software to turn it off. I'm using Windows XP and have had this problem with IE 6--8. Is there a solution--other than changing operating systems and/or browsers, which isn't going to happen?

Usually this is due to the proxies used and the various steps of authentication required. Some Javascript scripts don't handle the IP changes well and wind up throwing this error.
The easiest fix would be to use a different browser. Have you tried Firefox or Chrome? They both handle script errors better. Chrome in particular.
Alternately, completely killing internet explorer should stop the errors when they're happening. Hit ctrl-alt-delete and click "task manager." From there, you want to click the header above all the .exe names to sort by name. Find any listing of iexplore.exe and click it to kill the process.

I have them sometimes on the train on my MiFi, I always figure it's an IP thing or it's the slower connection and it's timing out.
Do you have a machine at home you can remote access into and use the browser there? It should work, and while it won't be as fast as if you were able to connect directly, it will probably let you get the job done.
In hotels I've also had good luck running to the business center which doesn't go through the wireless for the one or two sites it's a real issue on.
