So it looks like they changed the wording on the site now...

I tried to order a phone to be delivered the first day though the system kept timing me out so I ending up "reserving" one at the local Apple Store. I figured I could stop by there easily after work. Now it looks like they no longer have this reserve a phone option on the Apple website.

Next week when I go into the store late in the day will they have a phone waiting for me? That was my understanding of what I was getting myself into. I hope that this also means that the lines/chaos will have died down.

Primary reason I didn't want to pick it up at a store. I'll wait the few extra days via mail to avoid all that .

And I'm going to wait until they come out in white. :)

I considered that too. I remember that I really wanted the black 3G when it first came out. Got to the store and all they had was white. I have never looked back. It is just too classic ipod to not love it.

iPhone got a late start in Japan and Korea but recently it's sold well in both countries.

But not sure when they'll get the iPhone4. Probably by September at the latest.

Maybe earlier for Japan.

Just a heads-up that iOS 4.0 is now available from the iTunes store.

Downloading it as I type this.

I'm on a very fast FIOS broadband connection and the software download took about 12 minutes.

But the phone is now "optimizing" my photos for the new iOS and is doing so at a snails pace. And I've got over 3000 photos on my phone so I'm think that's going to take another 15 or 20 minutes.

Not sure if that will conclude the update process so I'd suggest downloading the update when you're not going to need your phone for an hour or so.

I plugged my 3GS iPhone into my computer last night and (from within iTunes) updated to OS 4. It took about 20 minutes, with only one (bogus) error message.

Two hints:
1. To create a "folder", just drag one app onto another. Then drag other apps into the new folder.
2. If you decide that you want a dark, solid-color wallpaper, there are some already installed that you can select.

25 minutes in the MSP F/G SkyClub. My pictures (about 3000) took another 20 minutes to optimize. You *can* interrupt the optimization of pictures and finish that the next time you sync.

Despite warnings from multiple tech blogs that iOS 4 will bring the iPhone 3G to a crawl, I can happily report that mine actually runs more quickly on iOS 4 than on iPhone OS 3.

The Pwnage boys already have IOS 4.0 jailbroken and unlocked it seems. I will maybe give it a try on my 3GS over the weekend. By then I should have a new IPhone4 in my hands. :p

They are available in both white and black here in France.

I thought that at first though now I think it is about the same or just a tab slower. It seems faster at first I think because it will quickly switch into the phone app from the home screen lets say, though then you realize its only half loaded it actually and you still have to wait a few moments.

I don't really care too much though because I am getting the 4G in two days

I think pwnage tool 4.0 unlocks 3.1.3 with newer basebands and older Bootrom but does not yet unlock iOS 4.0? Check the unlock thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...iphone-3g.html

I think it does for iphone 3g, 3gs, any baseband. I haven't tried it. I'm still on 3.1.2 with an older baseband, and my now ancient (unlocked) iphone 3g.

iclarified, etc will have tutorial versions/how tos, eventually, if they don't have them already. Reading the dev team's blog posts can/will make your head spin.

Today's Walt Mossberg column in the Wall St. Journal is a review of the iPhone 4.

He notes that "multitasking" on the iPhone actually (often) means that apps are put into a state of suspended animation, so they aren't really "running" and eating up the battery life.

To see which apps are "multitasking," you double-click on the round button. You will see 4 apps lined up across the bottom, and if you scroll them sideways you will see a lot more...in my case, 17 apps. I was able to turn a couple of them off by holding down the app until they begin to quiver, then selecting individual apps. However, most of them don't seem to want to go to sleep...like Hal from the movie 2001.
