Pre Plus or Droid for Verizon Wireless?
My company is replacing my Treo 700WX and has given me the choice of either a Palm Pre Plus or the Droid since we use Verizon Wireless. Both seem to have their positives and negatives, but I am curious to know what people that have these phones, or have used them, would choose. Primary function will obviously be phone calls, email, and calendar syncing. My company uses Exchange if that is a game changer for any of the phones. I will also want to use the device to search the web while traveling.
To complicate matters, my company has also given me the option of purchasing my own iPhone and they would take care of the monthly charges. Would prefer to stick with Verizon simply because of the excellent coverage I have had, but am open to the idea of getting the iPhone if that is the better choice.
Thoughts? Pre Plus or Droid or iPhone?

I assume none of your travel is abroad?
Personally I'd sort them: droid, iPhone, Palm Pre.
Not a fan of the Pre at all - hardware is nice, but the assortment of applications is terrible. Droid is a very mature phone, good amount of apps available, and it can do exchange (though you may need some third party software).

I hate doing this, but I would suggest something that's not on your list.
Within the next month or two, Verizon should be releasing the HTC Incredible model phone and the Nexus One (keeping in mind the Nexus One is a HTC-built phone and the Incredible might be a little better and faster).
Though, the Incredible might be coming in the next couple of weeks. Only "spring" has been mentioned for a date for the Nexus One on VZW.

It really depends on what you want I guess. If you don't already use Gmail or Google Apps and have your calendar on Google and your address book on Google I would not recommend an Android phone. They have some good apps though the pre really has everything you need and is a solid phone. Their app catalog may not be as big, though I don't really think that is too large of a factor unless you were looking to be playing a lot of games on your phone. As an iPhone user I have found that even with 100K+ apps to choose from there are only a handful I regularly use and most of those are games. Pretty much everything else is already on the phone or I prefer to use the web browser. For example there are numerous threads here about this or that app for checking flight status though I still think mobile.flightstats.com is just as good if not better than any app.

Thanks for the advice. As someone mentioned, I will not need this phone for international calls, so domestic service and capabilities are really my only concern. I had not heard about the new HTC Incredible phone, but did some research and may wait a few weeks to see if Verizon truly does announce the phone as rumored.
At this point it looks like I am leaning toward the Palm Pre Plus. The AT&T network really concerns me about the iPhone and the Droid seems to have issues with MS Exchange, along with other email accounts, and tries to push everything through Gmail. I do nothing through Google so not keen on being "forced" into using their system. I could be wrong about the Droid, but that seems to be the consensus from what I have read. The Pre Plus seems to synch well with Exchange, as well as with other email accounts, and I have generally read mostly good things about it except for the battery life. All smart phones seem to have battery life issues, so that seems to be a wash.
If anyone has used the phones and thinks I am way off base, please let me know.

Love my Pre, webos really blows andriod out of the water in many regards. Only issue is in editing of excel/word docs as datawiz has been dragging their feet.
Yes I know palm as a company has some questions, but I don't think webOS is going anyhwere for a while, a very solid OS for phones, it may end up at HTC or Nokia, or even Dell or something, but it will be around. Palm also has a vast touchscreen phone patent portfolio that will serve them well in the legal environment with the likes of Apple here recently.

I would recommend Pre as a long time Palm user. But I fear for the future of the company, which is I really recommend Android platform... HTC or Droid, or the Eric.

i wouldn't say the incredible will necessarily faster considering that they are going to underclock the processor on it. the only advantage would be the sense UI and the better cam @ 8 mp. there are rumors that there's also more onboard flash memory (perhaps 6gb). dram is the same @ 512mb. one thing i would caution is if you are worried about updates. you should know that the big red takes FOREVER to update their phones (ie: droid, they keep pushing back the 2.1 update on that). if you get an N1, you won't have to wait for all the red tape and testing that verizon goes through before updating their phones software. on top of that, HTC would have to update that phone too because it's running sense so technically you have to wait for google, HTC and then verizon.
My getting an N1 will depend partly on whether it will be a world phone. I have not seen any on-point literature from a trusted source, but it's looking like the answer will be 'no.'
If N1 is a world phone, that's not a gimme either.
I know about VZW taking a long time for updates. I'm on my sixth BlackBerry Storm. If they want to keep replacing my device for free when it locks up from the Java Script error, that's fine with me.
I just wish the HTC HD2 was not on T-Mo or limited to Win 6.5. That is a very nice device.

I've got a Pre, also iPhone and Android phones (the Hero). I really want to love the Pre. The UI is easily the sexiest and best thought-through, with lots of little details that they still haven't figured out on the iPhone. Sadly, the Pre has a few deal-killers.
First off, the build quality is crap. It really feels as if it's about to fall apart in your hands, with the screen flopping around loosely on the keyboard, all manner of squeaking and creaking noises from the ill-fitting battery cover, etc.
It's also nearly impossible to open with one hand. Maybe not a big deal for some but for me it's really inconvenient. The fiddly little cover over the micro-USB port is another PITA.
But the real killer is the screen: it's just too small. Text is tiny, and everything feels very cramped. Consider this is the same amount of pixels on an iPhone being crammed into a screen quite a bit smaller.
The issue of apps is an important one to some people; I can't get any of my standys like Kayak, Tripit, Shazam, etc. and that's frustrating.
As much as I love the sexy UI on this device, I'm afraid they've missed the boat. Too little, too late. Maybe they'll surprise us all with a big-screen device like the competition offers and some world-class apps. I hope so, but I doubt it.
I guess I'll unlock this one and gift it to a friend, it's just not something I care to use day to day.

Any update on this, now that the Droid Incredible is released?
I have a really old Verizon phone, and am considering getting a new Verizon phone. Since I'm set on staying with Verizon, would the Droid Incredible be best for domestic calls, email, data?

All the reports that are out say that it's a VERY nice phone. Drop by a Verizon store to check it out yourself.
