Smile Are smilies exportable?

This may be the wrong forum, but I'll start here anyway. Ms BH asked me if there was a way to use various smilies, e.g. , etc , in applications other than FT. For example, could she import them to GMail messages?

1. Gmail has its own Emoticon . You don't have to rely on outside sources.
2. If Ms BH62 prefers FT's smileys, she can treat them as jpg files and simply copy/paste (from posts) to "export" them. For instance, she may copy FT's "" to Gmail messages with no problems.
3. Some Emoticon in other sites uses different codes/language so they may not "survive" in other settings after import/export.

Did I answer your questions?

In Windows you could right-click on one and save it locally, then insert it as a graphic in whatever application youre using. I just tried copying and pasting a FT smilie, but it ended up with a black square as a background.

Agree, the copy-paste method works in all the "mainstream" public emails (gmail, yahoo, livemail/hotmail) if she wants emoticons different from the ones native to the respective providers.

Thanks, I think that answers the question. Off Topic: For gobluetwo, does your
handle refer to UMIch? If so, both BH's have the same pedigree.

Here are a couple of examples.

For : http://www.flyertalk.com/smile.gif
For : http://www.flyertalk.com/biggrin.gif
For : http://www.flyertalk.com/tongue.gif
For : http://www.flyertalk.com/rolleyes.gif

You get those by right-clicking the smilie and choosing "Copy image location" (ir similar).

Or, as suggested, you can right-click the smilie and save it as a .gif file and insert that file as needed in your email program (or Word document or whatever), or, as also mentioned, simply right clicking and copying the image itself (not the image location) and pasting that should work in most programs.

Another thing you can do with Gmail is to download the Incredimail (free) software and read all of your email by popping it into Incredimail. The Incredimail software includes animations, stationary, emoticons, music and even 3D for email. Incredimail software comes from Israel, and it's excellent for sending photos (can be inserted in the text stream or attached). They also have a premium edition if you need even more bells and whistles.
