Click on Start than Run, type in msconfig. Click on the startup tab and see if the roxio install is there, if it is unclick the box. I would also check the services tab, click the box to stop showing Microsoft services than look for Roxio and if there remove the check from this box also. Then restart the system, hope this helps.
If you are looking for good utilities go to www.glarysoft.com and download the utilities program it is free and works great, including a registry repair process that I would also run.

After 20 people gave the OP 20 different opinions, I'm sure we're unlikely to hear from them again.

@LIH Prem - not fair!! I tried posting replies a number of times via my BB, but they weren't taking for some reason. I just haven't had access to a PC since I tried to do the recommended fixes
Thanks to everyone for their ideas. I did some additional clean-up while using the software recommended by magiciansampras and I am very relieved and happy to say, it looks like it worked just fine.
Thanks to LIH Prem, maybe it was naive but this entire time the failed install was showing up on my desktop, I never thought it was something that was common - my bad but glad to know I wasn't alone in that frustration
In response to other posts - roxio showed nowhere on my machine, not startup, not as software to be uninstalled, not in the registry, this was just a phantom process I couldn't corral
Thanks again and it looks like this one is solved!!
