Flight Track has been letting me down lately. I wish Flight Aware had a widget.

I just discovered 2 awesome APPs that give you offline access to maps, which is perfect for when you travel. OruxMaps & MapsWithMe

I used MapsWithMe in both Madrid and Rome recently. Both cities don't allow google maps to download for offline use. MWM was actually better, because you get the whole country in high detail, not just your selected area. Download times are long. GPS compatibility comes with the pay version, but doesn't affect me since I can't ever seem to get GPS to work outside of the US or CA.

Also, it's a space hog. I uninstalled it and will only reinstall when needed.

Yeah? Maybe it was just Madrid.

Agreed - the Kayak app is the best travel app for sorting flights. It even has a section for baggage rules for all of the airlines. This can be hard to find, even on the airlines own sites.

What do you mean guide for travelers?

City guides, point of interest, dining, air?

Yup, and also something to entertain me whenever I chill at the hotel. Thanks in advance.

Well you might actually make better use of OruxMaps. It allows you to select an area and how detailed you want your map to be. For example, I've got an upcoming trip to Seoul & Tokyo. MapsWithMe uses the OpenStreetMaps database of maps, which doesn't have as many of the small & side streets that GoogleMaps does. However, Google Maps doesn't let you download maps from Japan & South Korea. OruxMaps DOES let you download maps from anywhere, and you can choose from Google Maps, OpenMaps, Microsoft Maps, and many other ones including cycling or hiking maps etc.

AroundMe is a nifty little app that shows you useful locations nearby.

I've used both TripIt and Kayak. Tripit's ability to monitor your email inbox and add travel info is very cool, but for both TripIt and Kayak you can simply forward a travel info realted email to them, and it will automagically be added. I have found that Kayak is superior to TripIt for giving me immediate notification of any changes to my travel plans (and I mean, even if the gate changes, I get an email!), and since I find timely itinerary change information to be the most crucial of all, I prefer Kayak.

Google Now does this for you? I get notifications when my flight changes. Replaced a lot of apps I had.

Top Android Travel Apps

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, search didn't find anything. Just moved to my first Android (Note 3 from BB) what are the top travel apps you fellow frequent flyers use?

What type of app do you seek?
I use [on both my 5s and new Moto G]:
waze for gps
yelp for food
tripadvisor for hotels
seatguru for flights/tracker/seats

Not sure there's a 'best' general travel app....this is what google says: https://www.google.com/search?q=top+...en-US:official :p

I'll have to try that one. I've been using Maps With Me for the times I can't download a Google map. It takes a while, though, as it downloads and entire country at a a time.

It's an old Thread so most of these have probably been covered but

- Worldmate : tracks all your travel, alerts you automatically of flight changes. it's $10 per year OR if you book a hotel through them you get 3 months free
- Gateguru : lets you quickly find out every dining option at the airport. great for when you really don't want to eat at the food court OR you're stuck in ATL for 2 hours and have to have ice cream
- Evernote: Let's you take notes with pictures, video, etc. you can email yourself notes, upload from your browser, etc. great for saving online articles to your phone to read later while in the plane
