Lost RSA SecureiD Token key how to avoid charge
Hi,
My company uses one of these RSA tokens when dialing into VPN. I believe when I started employment it is like a $150-$250 charge. I spent entire weekend going through the house trying to find it to no avail.
Is it possible I just purchase a replacement, like here?
I presume these are not generic but I just wanted to check. My last day at work is on Thursday.

Do you think your (soon to be former) employer is really going to make you pay for the lost token generator? I have seen people lose their laptops (well, usually they were stolen out of their cars or hotel rooms) and they got a new one with a reminder that they should keep the machine safe in accordance with corporate security standards. Or someone dropped their laptop, cracking the screen. No problem, got a new one.

You're kinda stuck. Those units are unique and licensed to the authentication server. That said, you probably have company policies in place to notify IT right away if a RSA token is lost, stolen, or missing. Depending on your organization, a lost token is still a security incident that needs to be addressed (even if low-risk).

Um...If you could just replace it by buying one off eBay, then I could do the same and get access to your machines.
Your IT guy has to register it with their servers. Your best bet is to become his buddy for a while so he'll help you out
That's one thing I always do when I get a new job. Get to know the secretary and the IT folks. It's unfortunate, but it really does make doing your own job easier.

I'd report it to the IT department so they can disable access.
Do you need this and some other information to log into your corporate network, or is it just this?

But OP is still an employee. If he reports it as lost now, I imagine the employer will simply issue a new one, or if he tells them his last day is Friday I imagine they would give him temporary emergency/non-token access.

This part is important. Do this NOW. At many firms you can be fired on the spot for not notifying them of a security lapse. This is more of a concern than the $150.
Do you need this and some other information to log into your corporate network, or is it just this?

I don't know the circumstances under which you are leaving the country, but there is often a measure of discretion on whether these replacement fees are being charged. If you were liked and part of the latest round of lay offs, they may choose to overlook the fee.
