Question Embraer 145 overhead bin

I want to "carry on" my 4"x4"x32" fly rod case and desire to put in the Embraer 145 overhead bin. Will it fit .... has anyone done this before successfully? If it doesn't fit ... what is the probability the attendant will allow me to put in the forward storage compartment?

Length really isn't a huge issue on the ERJ, its girth that gets bags stuck.

Your fly rod case as described should fit, if you get there first, ahead of the big " shopping bags " from other passengers.

I carry small fly rods all the time on Embraer flights: For larger Spey rods ( 12-15 feet ) I use a 2-piece polycarbonate check-in case sold at most salt-water fishing shops. Despite looking like a bazooka launcher, I put a TSA lock on it and to date I've never have experienced problems in over 47,000 air miles.
