Camera mounted to windshield - suggestions?

Hi. If there is already a thread on this topic, I apologize. I am looking for recommendations on a video camera that I can mount to the windshield of a rental car for purposes of taking video during a driving tour of Scotland.

The sound quality of the camera is not a critical factor, as I am more concerned about the video quality. We would likely download the video each night to a notebook. Is 4-6 hours of recording time realistic per day? I probably wouldn't use the camera much at all after this trip, so I'm looking for the least expensive decent camera I can find.

I would be grateful for any recommendations anyone can provide.

The GoPro or any of the other action cameras out there on the market (most cheaper than GoPros) should have suction cup mounts which could be mounted to your windshield. They also tend to have fairly wide field of view, in the range of 140-170 degrees.

Probably better for these purposes than a dedicated dash cam.

Most cameras have suction cup accessories available. Look for something that can shoot 4k, the results are considerably different than non 4k cameras. Recording time will be contingent on the size of the memory card you use, and make sure the camera has a 12v power cable available so you can use your car's cigarette lighter for power. Otherwise you will only get 1-2 hours on a battery charge.

If you're only going to use it once, and then not much after the trip, consider renting one from places like LensRental.com or Borrowlens.com, or similar. A lot of them are running holiday specials and you can rent some really good equipment for just a few bucks....

Sounds like GoPro would fit best to your needs here.
