United Airlines & American Airlines Flight Attendants Picket Together
United Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO, and American Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, will picket Chicago O'Hare International Airport Friday. The protest will be held in Terminal 1 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and in Terminal 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
United Airlines flight attendants are protesting the lack of progress in their wage negotiations with the company and ongoing contract violations. Wage talks broke down in early November and United has refused to resume negotiations.
American Airlines flight attendants are in the midst of a two-year fight for a new contract. Mediated talks have stalled and the flight attendants have asked the National Mediation Board, the government agency that oversees labor relations in the airline industry, to release the parties into a 30-day ``cooling off'' period. If no agreement is reached at the end of the 30-day period the flight attendants are free to strike.
