Engine failures and the volcano
I've read some speculation that the recent QANTAS engine problems on two different planes might have something to do with the eruption of the Merapi volcano in Indonesia. Does anyone have any further information on this?

A few news stories in mainstream media are starting to mention the possibility that the QANTAS engine failures were caused by the Merapi volcano -- a google search on qantas engine failure volcano will find them. The theory is controversial, and some experts seem to be denying it. But: the engines on two different planes failed over SE Asia while a volcano is spewing ash in Indonesia ... hmmm ....

I think this comes under the category of 2 plus 2 equalling 5.
The planes had problems about 1000 miles north of the volcano at a time when the winds weren't from the south. In any case volcanic ash stops engines, it doesn't make them blow up
