I never said he was inconsiderate, quite the opposite. I know there is a word for men who are wrapped around their wives fingers.....

ORD - UA Gate Pass

Just wondering if anyone has recently requested a gate pass at ORD for a flight? Spouse is flying with infant and I'm wondering if Grandma can get a gate pass to assist?

I recently got a gate pass from Delta at MSP for our toddler and me to accompany papa to the gate (volcanic ash delays forced us to arrive ungodly early so we companionably hung out at the airport for a while). We had no problem at security.

At JFK, on the other hand, Delta *denied* a gate pass to my 14-year-old niece's brother (he was 21) who was supposed to escort her to the gate since she was flying as an unaccompanied minor. He had to leave her at security and didn't know enough how to be more assertive with the gate agent.

I was unable to get a gate pass at ORD to meet my partner and his two small children when they were arriving there from overseas, but that was several years ago now.

i've received different responses from CSR from india and US/Canada, the CSR from india noted the gate pass req for my spouse on the PNR and then the N. American CSR said no one's going to look at the notes and it all depends on the UAL CSR at the airport.

luck of the draw i guess because CSR said they only "typically" allow gate passes for UM (Unaccompanied Minors) but explain your situation and maybe they'll be a little bit more flexible.

crossing my fingers and we'll see how it goes

I think it's luck of the draw, with greater chance of luck at smaller, friendlier stations. In a couple cases where I really needed a pass to make a connection work (while handing off a child to grandparents) I've remembered that there's always the option of buying a refundable ticket.

I got shot down by Usairways at BWI for a gatepass...

I then proceeded to buy a full fare ticket which I got refunded

but yes it did qualify for SSSS treatment

at ORD, was denied.

at YYZ, the arrival and departure areas are separated so buying a full fare ticket probably won't work
