i've received different responses from CSR from india and US/Canada, the CSR from india noted the gate pass req for my spouse on the PNR and then the N. American CSR said no one's going to look at the notes and it all depends on the UAL CSR at the airport.

luck of the draw i guess because CSR said they only "typically" allow gate passes for UM (Unaccompanied Minors)… but explain your situation and maybe they'll be a little bit more flexible.
