Smile Urgently Need to Find Childs Airplane Bed

Our daughter loves to fly, so I was ecstatic when I found an airplane shaped bed for her on Craigslist at a local upscale re-use store. We called the store to put it on hold, which they agreed to do, and rented a truck. When we arrived to pick it up it had already been sold! They were kind enough to reimburse us for our truck, but we are airplane bedless.

Our daughter is now really bummed (as are we) because she did not get her airplane big girl bed.

I am wondering if anyone on Flyertalk has any ideas on where to purchase an airplane bed or how to decorate a flygirls airplane room.

I did purchase a couple of genuine A-300 windows on ebay which I thought I could make a lighted wall hanging out of. I have also found some airplane wall decals- haven't purchased them yet, as I need to figure out what color scheme we are going with.

In terms of airplane beds, seems the only current producers of twin sized beds are in the UK. I don't really want to spend over $1000 plus shipping on a bed that she might be embarrassed to have when she is a teenager.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Really stinks that they sold the bed after telling you they'd hold it

I thought Little Tykes used to make an airplane bed but I can only find references to race car beds.

Would really nice airplane bedding suffice? Found lots of adorable designs here:

Lots of great accessories at the bottom of that link as well

The only other thing I can think is to find someone who is a good woodworker and ask them to make one for you. That could run you $1000 as well but you could make it exactly to your specs.

Good luck!

Our son loves airplanes too. We took a different route and purchased a regular twin bed for him and decorated the room. Target has some great airplane decals and a comforter set. We collect airplane pictures and airplanes. He loves his bedroom!

How about a Sopwith Camel ceiling fan as consolation?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. My daughter is a jet-setter: while she likes prop airplanes, she really loves the big jets. A lot of the airplane decorations for rooms are prop planes. The other problem that we are facing is that a lot of the airplane bedding is boyish, with lots of blues. She is an all pink kind of fly girl.

We are heading in the direction of just going with an airplane themed room. Though, I haven't given up on the airplane bed.

So far I have purchased two A300 windows off of ebay that I am going to use to make a wall hanging, and I am in the process of narrowing down and purchasing a huge jumbo jet wall sticker- most likely in pink- from either etsy or ebay.

I am also toying with the idea of purchasing a beverage cart/dresser for her room. But, I haven't completely decided on that one.

Your suggestions are most welcome. Let me know if you think of anything else. And if you have a jumbo jet bed sitting in your basement that you were thinking of selling, please PM me.

A quick Google search found several places to bu airplane beds:

I don't recall Little Tikes ever making an airplane bed.

Yeap, I found those too. I probably should mention that my budget for this is <$500 a.i.

The first one is a bunk bed, and while it states that it is an "airplane bed" it actually has a porthole and a ship on the side of it. The airplane top bunk is really cool though.

The second site and third sites have exactly what I am looking for, however, they are not within my budget. The second site also has a wrought iron bed with airplanes, which just isn't what I was looking for.

I found a woodworking shop here that would make one for us within our budget if I could get them plans. However, I haven't been able to find any plans either.

Airplane beds

A selection of airplane beds - the expensive ones, that is.
Something pink:

Boeing owners own bed

More bedrooms:

A seat as bed:

A bedroom with smaller beds:

The bed of Sultan of Brunei:

The bed of Kelly Preston and John Travolta:

The bed of Zhou Enlai:

and Shah of Iran:

So... would a plywood sidewall curving like a fuselage wall and windows of correct size, height and pitch make the bedroom an airplane bedroom? Most beds in the pictures do not have conspicuous safety belts, though.

How old is the little princess?

Those beds are cool, alas, my little sky princess generally flies economy class (except for the occassional PM upgrade on DL). So, those beds might seem, well, not very airplane like to her.

I did purchase a couple of A-300 windows (just the plexiglass) and one of these days will get around to having it made into a wall hanging of some sorts. That, combined with an airplane wall decal may have to suffice.

I think a beverage cart dresser would be pretty fun as well. We will have to see what comes up on ebay. Most of the carts I have seen are missing the trays.

Thanks everyone for your ideas!

Here is an article on how to design an airplane bed.

Never did find an airplane bed, but I did find an airplane duvet in Etsy that the seller was willing to make in pink (turns out every major manufacturer of sheets with airplanes on them assumes that boys like airplanes- go figure ).

We also purchased a former NW airlines beverage cart on Craigslist. I am going to paint it pink and use it for storage in her room. I found an Etsy seller who will create a "logo" for her Airline to stick on the side of the cart.

I got two A-300 airplane windows on Craigslist. I haven't completely decided what I am going to do with them, but I have in mind making a wall hanging/light that would be mounted next to her bed.

Finally we purchased a large airplane decal to put on her wall.

Oh, and the bed, a modern looking style from the Room and Board outlet.

When it all arrives and is installed it should definitely be an airplane themed room fit for any jet setter princess.

Please share a picture with us when you're done. It sounds like a great treat for your little girl.
