Watch cleaning in BKK?

Has anyone ever had a high end watch cleaned and serviced in Bangkok? I have a quote of $600 to clean and refurbish an Omega Seamaster. Would it be worthwhile?

If labor is any indication, I got tennis racquets strung for $3 and it can cost $20 or $25 in the US.

Thanks, Jim

[insert obligatory "clock cleaned" snarky remark here]

Is this a chronograph or a normal chronometer? I'm assuming it's mechanical to begin with.

If it's a normal chronometer servicing, that quote is probably higher than the official Omega service center. If you have a chronograph, I still think that's high (for a 3rd party job).

I'd search around your city for a reputable watch maker (and maybe even Omega authorized). Unless you have the 85xx caliber, most good watch makers can service your watch for far less.

normal chronometer

The quote was from Longs Jewelers in Mass. They're an old jewelry firm and I'm told the watch needs a lot of work.

That price seems about right to me. I had a quote of $600 to clean my Breitling B2 last year (price from Breitling).

There is a very good watch repair shop right next to Emporium on Suk Soi 24. They are about 60 meters up the soi from Sukhumvit on the right hand side. Easy to get to using the BTS (Phrom Phong).

This is the licensed repair center in BKK. Try them first. If it is too expensive or doesn't work out for some reason, I have a few other suggestions in other areas of Thailand, BUT....I am not sure if licensed parts are used at the other locations. I have been nursing a Seamaster for years successfully, but some of the smaller town vendors look shady on the parts issue.
