Fiancee and I are planning two weeks in September in Thailand for our honeymoon. We don't want to travel all that way to spend the whole time on the beach, so I think we have a decent itinerary, but wanted to see if people thought we were too ambitious and/or had other suggestions on how best to experience Thailand in two weeks.
Neither of us has spent much time in SE Asia before, either.
9/14 -- arrive 4pm into BKK
9/15 - 9/18 -- BKK
9/18 - 9/20 -- Chiang Mai
9/20 - 9/23 -- Koh Samui
9/23 - 9/26 -- Sin (flying out late on 9/26). Would prefer to spend another night in Samui, but Bangkok Air doesn't have a Samui-SIN flight on 9/24.
What do people think? We're debating cutting out Chiang Mai, as it seems to be a bit too much flying around, and spend more time in BKK and Samui, but from what I've read, Chiang Mai seems like quite an interesting place, more so than BKK, which strikes me (possibly incorrectly) as more of just another large city?

I think it sounds like a pretty good "Thailand sampler" itinerary, as BKK, CNX (if you get out of the city) and USM definitely represent very different sides of the country. Go for it -- and come back later to explore the one you liked best.

I agree. Two weeks really isn't enough time, however, trying all three of these destinations will give an idea on where you might want to return later. You will have a wonderful time.Originally Posted by jpatokal

Re your flight from USM to SIN - I understand that Bangkok Airways is going to add a flight from USM to KUL at some point in the near future. That might give you an alternative, allowing you to spend an extra day on Samui then fly to SIN via KUL???

that might be great. i am going to hold off buying the plane tickets until we get closer, as I imagine Bangkok Airways will change their schedule in the interim.Originally Posted by Swiss Tony
