Hotels around the Nana Plaza area

I am spending Christmas in Bangkok and fancy staying around the Nana Plaza area which looks busy and touristy, I have identified 3 hotels in my budget range : Mercure, Landmark, Movenpick , any recommendations on which of these three hotels or any other hotels in the same area I should consider?

You know Nana Plaza (Soi 4) is one of the main hotspots for lets say dodgy tourists looking for well the same services offered in Soi Cowboy and Patpong, right?

Hoping you are not after that, you would want to look at Sukhumvit Rd in general. Doubletree Ploenchit is decent and should be in the same range as the ones you mention as well.

Try the Icon hotel, a block away and a much quieter street.

Hi, yes. SKT-DK, I have seen a lot of vids on YouTube showing the going and comings of the area, it looks like a happening bar/restaurant area which is why I choose it, I am certainly open to advice on other areas to stay.

Nana plaza, the bars are overpriced, the restaurants suck but the entertainment
is readily available. If you want to stay there then Novotel or doubletree are right down the street from the entertainment. JW is close as well and a bit more upscale.

If you really want nice nightlife and good restaurants stay in Thong Lor or Silom area.

I agree with the reply above: Thong Lor/Phrom Phong is probably what you'd want. Near Thong Lor is a pretty decent looking Marriott and just next door is a new Intercontinental. You're too early for what I believe will eventually be a Conrad? next to EmSphere, but in the soi behind the park is the Marriott Marquis. For Hiltons, there's a Hilton in Sukhumvit 24 and a DoubleTree in Sukhumvit 26. Practically every chain is represented from Asok to Thong Lor.

The stretch from Asok to Ploenchit is a hellscape. Between Ploenchit and Siam is the busiest commercial district. Upscale choices would be Park Hyatt at Central Embassy and Grand Hyatt Erawan. Towards Ratchadamri station are Anantara and St. Regis. A slightly more budget choice in a soi off Ratchadamri is the Courtyard by Marriott, which I have a soft spot for since it was where I (twice!) served my covid-era quarantine.

All of those hotels have extensive threads in the hotel forums on this website.

actually there is not only the mentioned "dodgy" entertainment available in this area. in particular Soi 11 is a party street with many bars of the non-dodgy kind (it was dodgy-free for long time but now some dodgy bars are spreading there as well)....
I have stayed in Mercure in Soi 11. It is a decent hotel and not too old; I got an upgrade to the executive room and lounge access as I am Platinum. Landmark hotel is getting old, but is great from the location (for those who want to stay there). Movenpick in Soi 15 is a bit far for walking back to Sukhumvit but also a good middle class hotel

"Lower Sukhumvit" as it's known (roughly in, around, and between the Nana and Asoke intersections) is a lively, fun area. If you don't want to indulge in naughty entertainment you can easily avoid it. If you want to, well it's there for ya in all its, er... glory.

It's been a while since I checked rates, but you might also look at the Adelphi Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 8 (maybe a bit less upscale than the ones you mentioned?), and the Sofitel across from Soi 10. There's also the JW Marriott on Soi 2.

With any of those or the ones you mentioned you'll be right in the middle of the action, and similar walking distance to Nana and Asoke intersections (except Landmark, which is much closer to Nana).

Good luck.

As BinSabai says the soi 11 is a good area with all varieties of good food and good music and good entertainment too. All within walking distance. Late night restaurants and bars of course. And nothing is dodgy in Thailand by the way. It is a customer oriented society and they cater for everyone.

Agree on Soi 11 completely.

And I see your point on nothing being dodgy - after all, it is about supply and demand, and one could argue that certain types of establishments because of demands created by certain types of (Ill say it) dodgy tourists who come here.

some people claim, that there are no good restaurants in this area...just overprized low quality

that's wrong. there are a couple of the town's best restaurants to find between Asoke and Ploenchit al lower Sukhumvit. I just would like to mention some Thai restaurants:
Na Aroon Soi 1
Prai Raya Soi 8 (for me the best southern Thai food restaurant in town)
Madame Saranaie Soi 19
in Soi 23 even a cluster of Thai Restaurants: The Local, Oranuch and Wanakarn

for simple but good Thai: Suda Soi 14
or Cabbage & Condom, an institution in Soi 12

I have been a regular at Suda for decades, and they always remember me - great and decently priced food!

Soi 11 is nice and close enough and very lively.

Hotel: Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit w/ direct connection to Nana BTS. On the corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 11

Restaurant: Burapa Eastern Thai Cuisine on Soi 11 across the street from the Aloft, excellent cocktails and high end Thai food. Rez recommended.

Another restaurant in the Nana area I love is Nefertiti for middle eastern food on Soi 3/1

I would like to add Burapa on soi 11. Very nice ambience too as inside a railway carriage. I agree with Binsabai about Madam Saranaie as have been there many times and it was always good.
