Not for me to judge, but someone shred it on Linked in:
- Mexico - no covid entry restrictions whatsoever, traffic almost returned to the 2019 level (exceeded to/from USA):
https://media-exp3.licdn.com/dms/ima...U3vmsZbWaUZt8I
- Mexico planned GDP growth: https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/mexi...5.3-2021-03-31
- Thailand planned GDP growth: https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/worl...ear-2021-07-15
Time will tell whose strategy is better especially if not only economical, but also social costs are taken into consideration...

Definitely the darkest day so far.
The sense of desperation is palpable, on the part of the regime and even our embassies - many of which launched a hail-mary this morning for vaccinations tomorrow at SCG HQ in Bang Sue (not the new rail station).
email from covidbkk, the U.S. EMbassies covid mailing list:
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Event: COVID-19 Vaccine Opportunity for U.S. Citizens - July 17, 2021
The Thai Government has informed the U.S. Embassy that it is offering U.S. citizens in Thailand the opportunity to be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine at 4 p.m. this Sunday July 18, 2021 at SCG Headquarters in Bang Sue area of Bangkok. (See location map here: https://goo.gl/maps/dFRM8oycooZTtQJW8).
IMPORTANT: Doses are limited. Those who are successful obtaining an appointment will be contacted. If you do not receive a return email verifying your appointment, assume all appointments have been filled.
Seems a long way down from here.

Pretty much impossible to keep up with all the decrees.
There were some clashes yesterday, a big protest planned for tomorrow, so this is meant to suppress that activity, I guess.
Gatherings of more than five banned in Greater Bangkok
The Covid-19 command centre has banned gatherings or activities that involve more than five people in Greater Bangkok ahead of planned demonstrations by some groups on Saturday.
Apart from the capital, the provinces where the ban takes effect are Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon.
The curb, imposed by Gen Charlempol Srisawat, who is responsible for Covid-19 security-related issues, is part of a blanket announcement published in the Royal Gazette late Friday night.

Troops to begin door-to-door tests
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed the armed forces and the national police to join hands with City Hall to arrange for more than 200 rapid deployment teams to carry out door-to-door testing for Covid-19 in the worst-hit parts of the city.
The move is aimed at finding and isolating infected people to curb soaring transmissions in the capital, according to an informed source.
The teams will be sent out across Bangkok and the surrounding provinces. These teams will go door to door to offer a free Covid-19 testing service to people.

I think they have a threshold of 90 new cases per week, then, not sure, something might happen?
Said to require "imposing additional restrictions".
No clue what those might be.
I think the sandbox will remain open, regardless. Closing it would be a huge psychological blow. Whether any "tourists" choose to come, assuming the delta variant sweeps across the island, remains to be seen.

Germany places Thailand on its Covid-risk list
Germany has categorised Thailand as a risk country for Covid-19 and introduced safety restrictions effective from Sunday.
People travelling from Thailand to Germany must follow these requirements:
•Online registration via https://einreiseanmeldung.de
•Have certificates confirming that the visitors have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, have recovered from the virus, or have not contracted the virus
•10-day quarantine in Germany

Most recent vaccination figures, mix is 65% sinovac, 35 % az (doses). 3,443,330 people with two doses (nearly all sinovac as very few second doses of az given). The target is 50 mm fully vaccinated by 1/1/22. So just under 7% of the way there. If we hit that 50 mm by 1/1/23 I'll be impressed.

Hearing anecdotally that it is really widespread now. Reports from several areas about local hospitals being full, cases being discovered in very rural areas, etc.
Also some areas planning a return to severe lockdown...curfews, no groups at all, etc.
Really hope this gets back under control soon for the sake of Thais everywhere.

if you are fully vaccinated or have recovered, you do not need to serve quarantine...
I think this is now applicable to most EU countries and does not surprise anybody given the figures in Thailand

I don't stay up to the minute on this stuff but it feels like domestic interprovincial travel, other than that involving sandboxes or plus locations, is severely restricted, and/or temporarily suspended. Also moving around during curfews is also controlled by checkpoints.
Domestic flights suspended from Wednesday
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand on Sunday suspended most domestic flights in a bid to prevent inter-provincial travel amid the worsening Covid-19 crisis.
The order will come into effect from Wednesday.
However, airlines are still allowed to operate cargo, international and domestic flights under special schemes, such as Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus Model.

Bangkok Airways confirms to operate its domestic flights until 20 July 2021
