I got a CX award SFO-HKG-BKK and HKG-SFO, in February.

To get the right flights on the TPAC segments, specifically to arrive before noon on both TPAC flights, I'm limited to only 9 nights in Thailand.

I'm thinking of 3 nights in Chiang Mai, 3 in Phuket and 3 to finish up in Bangkok. Thought about splitting it up only into two places but my understanding it tends to be drier up north so ,.. But internal flights seem cheap and frequent so I'm leaning towards 3/3/3.

One thing I'm undecided on is whether to stay in Phuket or just fly to the airport, go directly to port and then stay on Phi Phi. If I stayed in Phuket, I'd certainly do a day tour to Phi Phi, weather permitting.

Primary interest is sightsee, take pictures. Maybe even pack my drone. So I will not be swimming or snorkeling.

Staying on Phi Phi means taking an early CNX-HKT flight on one of these local/regional airlines, to arrive early enough to board one of the ferries there. I looked at flying to Krabi, which seems to be a bit closer to Phi Phi Don. But there aren't as many flights there.

I guess the main thing is Phi Phi has less tourist amenities and you can't find as many upscale restaurants. Which is fine with me, I don't want to spend too much time for meals.

I tend to think Phi Phi is just a day trip - not suitable for 3 days.

Also, be aware that drones must be registered.

Tourists can bring their drones into Thailand. However, they are not allowed to fly their drones here until they have registered their devices with the NBTC or the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

Thanks for the link.

Only advantage staying there may be to hike a bit as well as go around to more remote beaches.
