Hi All,
I have been talking quite a bit lately about my flight from BKK-HKT and I am not sure on what type of a/c I am getting. It is listed as a "777-300" but as you may be aware of the 773's are in the middle of a refurbisment. TG list all their 773's (regardless of cabin interior) as "777-300". I am wanting to upgrade to Royal Silk, hoping that the 773 will be equiped with the new seats. Is there anyway at all I can confirm this? A website other than www.thaiair.com could tell me what 773 it is? Becuase if it is the old 773 with the very outdated Royal Silk seats, than I won't bother with the upgrade.
Thanks.

Amadeus has the same codes for TG as KVS etc. if you use real amadeus, not these web interfaces.
777 = 777-200ER
772 = 777-200
773 = 777-300
Problem is TG's stupid new booking engine translates them to longer descriptions found in Amadeus, so
777 = 777-200ER (Boeing 777-200/300)
772 = 777-200 (Boeing 777-200/200ER)
773 = 777-300 (Boeing 777-300)
777 = 777-200ER
772 = 777-200
773 = 777-300

So, check TG website for aircraft type on day of booking, and apply translation as above. You could do a dummy booking for the flight yr on for biz and count the number of seats in C as well .....

If you have the booking code, go to www.checkmytrip.com and use the code to access a copy of your itinerary/e-ticket. There should be some information about the aircraft on that website.

well, not quite. re-read my thread - the amadeus info is still potentially confusing because of the way THAI have the information entered.
For eg, if Amadeus says Boeing 777-200/300, the aircraft actually is a Boeing 777-200ER ....

What I actually mean is that I know it is a 777-300 operating the flight, just whether it will be retrofitted or the old interior. Judging by the codes and the booking system, I gather there isnt a way to find out and the only way I will find out is at check-in. Does anyone at all know how to determine the exact type of a/c? On the flight info for my flight, it says "777-300". I do not know whether iot will be retrofitted 773 or old 773. Anyone help me?

I'm not sure if there is any way to check online or not so sorry I can't be of more help with that. I will though say that for such a short flight an old or new interior wouldn't make all that much of a difference to me. The old seats are comfortable enough for the less than 2-hour flight and any difference in IFE also wouldn't really matter. Unless you just want to experience a refurbished 777-300 I'd say just book whichever class you want based on other factors.
If you really want to know what aircraft it is why not just call TG and ask them?

I probably will just ring TG and ask them. And as you said aswell the older 773Biz class seats are comfortable. I have travelled in them for over 3 hours and though they were pretty good. I just would like to experiance brand new Royal Silk class seats on 773. Its either that or wait until my Royal Silk class flight SYD-BKK in January 2009. This time to BKK I decided for Y class internatinally and C class for domestic. And anyway, even if the seats are the older type, I still get to visit the new lounge at BKK airport. Any more info or news from anyone, much appreicated.

You can't select seats for domestic bookings until 24 prior to the flight, so a dummy booking in advacne to check the seat map won't work.
If you were curious (and I think so) then use the OLCI to select our seat. At that time you'll be able to seet how many C seats and so deduce the config.
have a great flight.
