Regional J

I am intending to extend my journey to BKK in April to include BKK-HKG return. Anyone knows whats the best flight for BKK-HKG? At the moment, expertflyer is showing 744s, 743s, 333s, 777s and even MD11s on the route. I suppose I have no choice but to take the 743 on the return (TG607) to ensure I dont get stuck in a horribly long transit in BKK (am connecting to TG981), but I can catch any flight for BKK-HKG.

I'm aware that regardless of equipment service rendered by TG crew is almost always immaculate. However I'm concerned about maximising my experience by ensuring that I get good equipment for the relatively long short haul flight (2hrs 45 mins I think). I'm also interested to know the difference in J classes of each of the different planes. So seasoned travellers of TG's regional business class - your advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Keith

my personal preference is the A333 after been on all but the MD11s you'd mention on this route in C. Why? it has electronic control on the seats...so I guess it is one the newest type I guess? The B777s (B777-200) somehow I find it a bit norrow in the seats (maybe cos they have 2-4-2 config).

If not the B744s would be the next appropiate option, cos you'll have the 2nd generation of config and can have "upper deck" if you prefer a more cosy cabin.

have a nice flight!

Coolness, thanks!

I guess the 333 is the one to go for then. On the return I'd have to be on the 743 which I understand is no different to the MD11. :S

also bear in mind that TG has been using the a B772 for BKK-HKG (TG628 depart 10:30) for the past 2 months, this has to be the best for this leg. It has the latest lie-flat seats installed...new entertainment etc.....BUT as you know TG is infamous for equipment change, which is what happened to me last month (B772 to B777) and as I was planning my travel for the remaining of this yr, I see they no longer fly this route in Dec.

You might want to keep an eye open to their schedule, if the B772 is available next April surely it would be the top choice.

Thanks for the tip!
Atm, it's showing 777. But knowing TG I'll definitely monitor expertflyer and thaiair.com.

Is a Paid UG woth it on a TG 747-300

I am headed to Rome next week XMN-BKK-FCO and I was just wondering from all of you who have flown a TG 747-300 would it be worth it to pay for an Upgrade from Economy to Business on a 10 Hour Overnight flight. Looking at the seat maps I would venture to say No but I thought I would ask here first. Does the 747-300 have PTV in Business? I flew it this summer back from Copenhagen in Y but took a heavy dose of sleeping pills and slept all the way to Bangkok so I am not sure. All advice would be appreciated.

It doesn't have PTV nor does it has legrest (horrible ones that only rise half way) on its B747-300. Whether it's worth it? apart from the food (top standard of cos as to all TGs international C) and a wider seat, I would try get seat 31C in Y instead and save the $$ . For the price to upgrade (is it also USD$750?) for a 10 hr flight? well I much rather spend the cash in getting a stopover stay at Orixxtal BKK instead. ^

Is this what's on the 777? Looks about the same as the 333 width wise, but of course pics can be deceptive.

Yep - that's the old layout. Width is not the same as the 333 though. Having said that, pitch is decent.
