Just to add to this discussion bit more. My wife is hooked on one specific brand of cosmetics, not the most expensive but good (God bless her), that is cheaper to buy in Harrods in London than at any duty free around the world... The second cheapest place to get it is direct order in USA...

taxes in Thailand for alcoholic beverage increased! quite significant for wine, imported Liquor, some increase for beer, but not much for the local liquor

Ahhhh, thats ok. It truly is the Land Of Smiles. And wine has been very expensive for a long time there as far as I remember.

yes indeed. if I go to a restaurant with western Food, I usually spend double the amount for wine, what I spend on food

Yeah, nothing to buy at BKK, we had some bahts so we did spend them,
but no reason to do it. They don't even have any nice local gifts, just
some made in china stuff nobody cares about...

I usually buy chewing gum or candy to get rid of my bahts if i have any left after I change them all.

I always laugh to myself walking through the DF at PNH where alcohol is 2x the cost of town. Yes, a bottle that is $12 in town is $24 at DF. Crazy times.
