I am a fan of Bob's myself, and the new Omni Hotel will be close to you. The Palm will be closer to the School Book Depository however (half a block), and is also very good. It's been a while since I have been in it, but they used to have a private dining room in the Palm that can be reserved for a meeting. Not sure it's still there, but it might be an option for you.

the dominate paper is the dallas morning news or something or another close. on friday or saturday there is an entertainment section with most of the decent dining choices in dallas.
there is a large oriental/indian population in dallas area. there are a number of very good oriental/indian restaurants. look in that entertainment guide. also there is a magazine called 'D' i think. they have an excellent listing.
there is good for'n food in dallas. and it is cheap.
amici in carrolllton is a pretty good italian restaurant, if it is back.

The closest to the grassy knoll are the Palm and the Y O Ranch steakhouse in the West End. Bob's in the Omni is also close. Stephan Pyle's is just up Ross Ave offering upscale southwestern fare. Javier's is at the north end of McKinney Ave offering Mexico City food and a great cigar bar with superior people watching.
Al Biernat's steak house on Oak Lawn has great steaks and the best chance to see someone famous.
