Taking a nap at DFW [and sleeping]

In a few months I'm going to be flying the red-eye SEA-DFW, connecting to DFW-NRT five hours later. I usually try not to sleep on flights to Japan, so if I could get a few hours of sleep in DFW it would make my trip much more pleasent. As far as I can tell there are no beds for day use anywhere in the airport. I've read the AA Clubs in DFW are pretty nice, how are they for napping? Any other ideas?

If you are that deadset on a few hours of sleep contact the Grand Hyatt which is in Terminal D and ask how much it would cost for a room for a few hours. I would call the hotel directly.

Three answers...there is a "day nap" place opening in the next few weeks in the D terminal. No idea on cost but it will be thee soon.

There are also two Hyatt hotels literally in airport. Yes, you'd have to go back through security, but a small price to pay for 4 hours of sleep.

Lastly, the AAdmirals club in the D terminal regularly has people napping in sleeper-type recliners in the back near the bar. There are also showers in D (and A).

And the clubs close at 10PM, and re-open at 5:30 Am (in the D terminal, which is where your NRT flight will leave).

DFW has clubs in 2 concourses and 1 has a quiet room - that might work or you.

Question: why don't you like taking naps on flights to Japan? If anything, I'd try to wear myself out so I can pass out on that 13 hour odyssey.

When the weather gets bad, the airport brings out Coleman (army-style) cots for distressed passengers. I don;t know if they are available on normal overnights.

Failing that, if you don't want to sleep on the floor, the best bet may be the "DFW Airport Travel Lounges" (formerly Samsung Lounges), which are small, free spaces located at gates A29, B8, B28, C8, C27, E8, E31, where you'll find the cushiest chairs at DFW.

Actually, I believe AA as ACs in all 4 terminals at DFW. The one at A has really, really nice showers.

I knew there were decent-sized clubs on couple concourses (A & C, I believe) - was not too sure about the rest. I think 1 still has a smoker's lounge.

A and D have a smoker's lounge.
A has best showers.

That shouldn't be a problem for a red eye from Seattle connecting to a NRT flight. If anything, the OP will get there right as the AC opens.

Two unconventional options:
  1. Yoga Studio.
  2. One of the airside airport chapels.

Nice, I saw a few news items about that place but they were all rather old so I assumed it fell through. Maybe it will be there before my trip.

I'm a terrible napper, if I fall asleep on the flight I tend to stay asleep. Then I arrive in Japan and my sleep pattern is all screwed up. If I manage to stay awake for the entire "long day" then I almost never have any jetlag. I've never tried to start my trip with a red-eye though, so my normal plan might not work out this time, we'll see.

Indeed, arrival is 5:20am.

Usually the beginning/end of terminals are a good quiet place if you want to camp in the terminal. I believe it's C that is best but I could be mistaking.

I'd go for a $50 AC pass to shower and change but if the OP does not want to spring for the fifty bucks at the end of C (towards gate C39) are bench style seats and that part of the terminal tends to be quite.
