Which forum software is FT using? What version?

Which forum software is FT using? What version?

I am looking at a bunch of forums I frequent to find out what forum software they are using. The result of this will be a selection of NEW Forum Software for a prominent Forum online that is a little out of date on the Forum software.

I hate to bump an old thread, but this is where search sent me.

1) What version are we now using?

2) Is it correct to assume that Version 3.6.7 had a "like" button available? IIRC the period when Randy allowed likes and dislikes would have been long before July 2008.

We're on 3.8. Like button would be a setup option in any case.

I don't remember ever having likes and dislikes for posts. Randy enabled a reputation system for members for a brief period til gaming forced him to take it down.

At that time, weren't the likes and dislikes applied to posts (like birthday wishes in a happy birthday X thread) before being aggregated over the username, with one dislike canceling out one like? I wasn't around then, but whenever the topic has come up, I've always assumed that this is how it worked during that period.

BTW, when did this happen? I've vaguely had the impression that it was perhaps around 2003.

I don't think so. It was much more direct. You could leave comments for people, both pro and con. It got nasty quickly. I wouldn't ever want to revisit it.

It happened in 2004.

Yikes... my hair stood on end just seeing those posts again.

But what really struck me was how many people no longer post on FT - I miss seeing so many of them. A few I'm glad are gone, but it's very few. Most of the rest posting there are missed ^^

Thanks. This looks like something I should read, for background when people mention it as part of the "helpful" button pro/con arguments.

There are actually 2 threads - one is linked in the linked post above. There may be others.

But what I find remarkable is that this was TEN YEARS AGO and so many of us who were around still shudder to think of it. And that's why we're so opposed to like buttons.
