How does the buddy list work

I have no idea when this was implemented but I have people on my buddy list but what is it for? Does it find posts from my buddies?

I added a couple people to it via MyFlyertalk but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I thought it was a way to send PMs to your "Buddies". However I could be wrong as this functionality is something I have not tried to use. I believe I read a thread about it a while back but i'm not sure where that thread was nor do I have much confidence in the current search abilities.

In addition to the buddy list "features" listed in the FAQ, if you look at the bottom of a forum to see the "currently active users", your buddies will have a "+" next to their name.
Not sure why, but it's there.

Another question (you would think I haven't been on here forever). In the MyFlyertalk Option is states "Show Your Avatar"

We have never had avatars that I know of. Why is this here? Is it just part of a standard BB and Flyertalk has disabled it?

That was my guess. But I am a relative newbie & don't have a clue what the "+" is for, either.
