Please see responses here from Randy Petersen and from JohnMcG with Internet Brands.

Posts on this issue have been popping up in many threads and on multiple forums so...and I'm not speaking for Randy or John....it's probably a bit difficult to answer all of the inquiries personally.

But I can tell you as a FT member that this matter is being taken VERY seriously and is being addressed.

I posted in that thread, but the comments from John and Randy are 3 days old now (from Oct 12), and were more directed towards pornographic ads. I think it's scary that we're now getting reports of FT ads downloading software onto users computers. I'll e-mail John and ask if he can comment here.

You guys need to download "Sandboxie" and use it to run your Internet Explorer.

Sandboxie will prevent any infection from sites.

This has been happening for 2 weeks, yet they are still feeding ads.

JohnMcG hasn't said a word since last week and the infections this weekend were far worse than the week before.

Now the confidence has been greatly shaken. A big to FT.
It's time to shout: SHAME ON YOU FLYERTALK!!!, first for letting this happen at all, and second for being so slow to deal with it. I hope you are now prepared to provide technical support for folks whose computers have been infected, and compensation for any damages.

I am very

I disagree. Yes, one could do that, but it is the responsibility of the site (FlyerTalk, in this case) to better screen their advertisers to make sure that this does not happen in the first place. I use FireFox and have not seen this, but the idea that this could happen now is unacceptable.

Cheers.

With all due respect, Cholula, you are forthright in stating that you do not speak for Randy or John. Can you be sure that this is really being addressed in more than words?

The recent purchaser of this site obviously paid some amount of money for the rights. It seems that they are trying to make this back quickly by allowing questionable advertising (porn, MalWare) without much checking. I'll admit that I'm not an internet entrepreneur but, as a user, this seems like a questionable business model.

Cheers.

All I know is what we've been told publicly and privately via PM's, threads and chats.

I contacted JohnMcG last night and also this morning and asked if he would again publicly address this matter. And perhaps update us on what progress is being made.

He doesn't report to me and I don't know his schedule so I can't guarantee when he'll get back to us.

Understood. Thanks for the frank reply. I think you've made my (and others') point.

Cheers.

Oh, he responded in a thread in RP about an hour ago.

He said he has his tech team looking into it. Gee thanks for the explanation.

I'll bet the lawyers said not to admit or apologize for anything or it may open IB to liability.

Why should it be in the RP forum and not this technical support forum? Is it not a technical related issue (infecting our computers).

If the moderators this this thread should be move to the RP forum fine.. .but I think I placed it originally in the appropriate location.

Sorry, but I did not say it should be in any forum. I was just advising everyone on this thread that he replied.

When I was reading this thread, I thought, "What ads?"

Then I realized I have this installed blocking ads.

I recommend this option for IE7 users.

Thank you! I just installed this, and it's wonderful. I never used to mind the ads here and even clicked on some to my benefit. But the risque pics and popovers that cover the text are more than I want to deal with. Then the threads on the malware scared me, and I started running my anti-virus program once a day just to be sure, even though it runs continuously in the background. So now there is one less person seeing the ads, which is counterproductive for IB.

I'm something of a novice when it comes to computers, so can someone tell me where/what I need to check to see if I'm affected by this malware? I'm running firefox w/ ....... plus, so I'm hoping that none of this nonsense is affecting me.

How sad that I even have to post this!

Thanks.
