Site down again?

Once again I can only reach FT through web2.flyertalk.com

FlyingToFly Nov 15, 2005 4:14 pm

I noticed that the search tool isn't working again for the United MP forum (it keeps timing out on me).

John at Webflyer Nov 15, 2005 10:03 pm

No the site is not down and has not been down.

ether Nov 16, 2005 1:24 am

I couldn't get onto the site today, and have had trouble for the past few days. Anyone else having trouble, despite the site not being down?

LHR Tim Nov 16, 2005 2:37 am

You might want to check things out though. Just tried a 'find more posts by user' and got:

There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

This am, I encountered problems. A message came back "server not found" This lasted about a half hour. It is ok now.

PS: Search function is not working.

Between 2pm yesterday and around 9pm (central) I could only reach the board through the web2 link. I tried 3 different connections and they all had the same issue. Perhaps it was just a DNS problem...

I got the same for using the 'Advanced Search' tool :(

As always, very grateful to those Webflyer folks keeping the site up and running :)^

Clicking on "new posts" returns the following message:

Thanks -- this was a permission issue on one of the webservers. Should be gone now.

I'm running into this message a lot:

This is for both www and web2.

John at Webflyer, what is causing all these problems? Are the servers just overloaded, or are there coding issues that are being resolved?

airbus320 Nov 16, 2005 11:31 am

I just experienced problems and finally managed through web2 to log on.

It's database issues with the web servers. Strangely nothing happened when we first added the servers into the mix last night but are cropping up this am. Easy to address so thanks for the feedback.

We're also rebuilding the webserver software on one of the machines (web1) looking to improve performance there.

gleff Nov 16, 2005 12:15 pm

I'm getting this intermittantly as well, but if I refresh a time or two I get where I'm trying to go.

Thanks for the update.

Would it be possible (it would sure seem desireable, imo) to have a link to a "network status" page that you could update with a sentence or two as problems occur?

I second this.

It'd be very helpful if we could check some sort of "network status" page when FT is down, so we know what the problem is and how long the estimated time is until FT will be back up.

Here's a good example of a network status blog:

Very good idea.

Kiwi Flyer Nov 16, 2005 3:52 pm

Still intermittent dropping out/cannot access. Even when on it is slow.

or a time or ten....

SEA_Tigger Nov 16, 2005 4:46 pm

I'm assuming web1 is still being rebuilt, so web2 is taking all the load which is why it is very slow and not loading any of the graphics.

Incredibly slow and erratic.

No matter which address is used.

This reply took a minute to come up and then another two minutes to post.

EDIT: But editing this note was lightning quick.

airbus320 Nov 16, 2005 8:14 pm

Still slow in the evening.

cblaisd Nov 16, 2005 8:17 pm

Pinging flyertalk.com is dead

Pinging web1.flyertalk.com and web2.flyertalk.com works.

But this (posted from web2) is still very, very slow in opening a thread and posting a reply.

EDIT: It took over three minutes for this to post.

Teacher49 Nov 17, 2005 12:12 am

For the past several days the site has been very slow. For several hours at least it was not responding at all.

Thanks for the tip about web2. I am using it now while www.flyertalk.com is being absolutely unresponsive.

cblaisd Nov 17, 2005 12:55 am

Flyertalk.com remains unreachable. web1 and web2 are intermittently reachable and exasperatingly slow.

http://64.78.185.92 is currently the fastest (but that's not saying alot) although it's not downloading all the graphics.

I hope the tech folks can give us a thorough update. Thanks.

magiciansampras Nov 17, 2005 7:37 am

This morning it wasn't loading at all for me and then in the last 5 mins web2 seems to be back intermittently.

I wonder if it's possible for the tech guys to post to some free web service or something about what is going on. I don't mean like 5 minute updates, but maybe if the database is down and it's going to take awhile, there can be a yahoo flytertalk page or something for network status. Just a thought.

Jenbel Nov 17, 2005 7:44 am

It's been awful for us over here in Europe today - even knowing some of the alternate addresses hasn't helped and I've been getting error messages more than i've managed to get access today :(

airbus320 Nov 17, 2005 7:45 am

Thanks to the techs for trying to fix this problem. We don't mean to be impatient but we are... addicted to FT. :D

The British Airways Club Nov 17, 2005 7:50 am

Hi FT,

I've been having constant problems over the past few days with the site being really slow. As a result I keep getting error messages saying there is a communication error and that there is a problem with the server.

All other sites are fine, and I'm only getting this problem with FT.

Do you have an update on when things will be back to normal?

Many thanks
Lyndsay

ScottC Nov 17, 2005 8:40 am

Entire site was down again for me for the past hour or so.

Fredd Nov 17, 2005 8:41 am

Same here as noted above by others - appreciate your efforts to rectify.

Interesting. I've had problems with the speed but the connection has been ok (bookmarked through flyertalk.com to the BA forum)

cblaisd Nov 17, 2005 9:22 am

Continues to be a complete mess here.

And the time stamp on FT is about 30 minutes off

SAT Lawyer Nov 17, 2005 9:39 am

Surfing this site has been painfully slow for the past few days. I hope that whatever technical problems are the cause will be remedied soon.

aisleorwindow Nov 17, 2005 10:02 am

DUPE, sorry

aisleorwindow Nov 17, 2005 10:04 am

Comforting to see I'm not the only one having problems. For a minute there I thought that maybe I broke the Internet :D
