New Subscribed Threads feature - not working?

I am very frustrated with the New Subscribed Threads feature of MyFlyerTalk. Maybe I am expecting too much from it, but it is making me crazy. Here's what happens:

At times, any number of threads will remain on the New Subscribed Threads list as long as I have FT open on my browser. Even (especially?) if I have read all the threads in the list, the threads that were there when I first opened FT remain in the list - dimmed, of course.

However, at other times (and this is what frustrates me) the list shortens before I have even had a chance to read everything that was on the list. For example this morning, there were 8 or 9 threads. I read a few, was called away, and when I came back there was only 1 thread in the NST list.

I guess my question is why do some threads stay dimmed (but visible) for long periods of time but other threads don't even remain long enough for me to read the new posts in all of them?

Sometimes when I post in one of the new threads the rest of the list disappears. Yet sometimes even when I have closed FT and reopened it later I the previous list remains - many/all still dimmed. It's never consistent. Grrrr... I just don't understand this feature.

FWIW: I have XP-pro and I browze FT with Firefox. I normally don't log out of FT before closing it.
