Delete post?

Under what circumstances can I delete a post?

Recently, I deleted about 50 posts I made on a particular thread. I went to "Edit" and then was given the option of deleting, so I took it.

About two days ago I tried deleting a post on a different thread and was not given that option, so I had to edit it.

A few minutes ago I went to edit a typo I made on a third thread and was again given the option of deleting it.

Some of the posts I deleted had been quoted in other posts, so that is not a factor in stopping deletion.

But I have no idea of when it can be done and when it can't.

I suspect the ones you were able to delete were in thread(s) started by yourself, whereas the others were in thread(s) started by someone else.

No, in one case I started the thread and in one I did not. I think that I have found the answer, however -- I can delete my Omni posts but not those in other forums.

If quality of the posts is the determining factor, I should be allowed to delete everything I write.

Is this in fact true? Can I only delete posts in threads I start?

(I'm trying to delete a post in another thread but can find no "Delete Post" button from the Edit Message menu...)

From my experience starting a thread has no impact on whether or not you can delete a post (except that you can not delete the first post in the thread that you started).

The only thing I can figure out is that post deleting is allowed in Omni and nowhere else. (Abdiel, Omni is a forum which you can not yet access. I believe it requires 180 posts and 6 months on F/T).

Seems a strange policy, but I appreciate you clueing me in to it. I'll just have to be very careful what I post!

Thanks!
