I really hope they find something functional to replace the Trending posts page.

That being said, I have low expectations. This page is benifical for people who are already engaged. I assume most decisions are based on generating revenue.

Plus one cannot forget my new favorite concept: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification

My suggestion is a Trending Post page !

Why is there a See All button but when you click on it you get "Page not found"

Kindly just remove it.

There is obviously the software to find trending threads as they show on the page 24h/day, as you say they left the see all button but removed its functionality,

They tried to justify this enhancement but when that clearly was bogus they have disappeared from the conversation.

Dont remove the button, just put the function back

Where is this "see all" button? (Just like was the case with the "new posts" button several weeks ago, I'm not aware of it.)

For "new posts," on the mobile skin, when you're in any thread, scroll down to the bottom and you should see "New Posts" beneath the name of the forum. Illustrative screen cap:

On the desktop version, it is at the top between "wiki posts" and "Search" while viewing forums.

I know how to find "new posts" (I was the one who first screencapped its button in this thread). I was asking about "show all".

I'm sorry, your question was unclear. I don't know anything about "show all" (or "see all" as written in a post).

No worries. I'm curious about it because I wasn't aware of it either, but since it apparently points to a dead page, I suppose I shouldn't be that curious.:D

Look at the top right on the “home page” of FlyerTalk to the right of the words Trending Discussions:

FWIW, that frame on the right, on an iPad shows up on halfway down the page instead.

And the most likely reason they did not remove the “See All” button, even though its a dead link, is its the same code for the “My Flyertalk” frame. Except the link works.

FT is at its best when people are sharing information, not adding their hot takes.

What is the distinction? What is a "hot take"?

Stgermainparis Mar 27, 2024 8:02 am

Now I’m just sad about this. FT no longer fun to explore.

PLeblond Mar 27, 2024 8:10 am

The problem, or rather the reality is, if this change does not produce a significant decrease in revenue, Trending won't be coming back regardless of the number of people who complain.

If you are not familiar with the phrase "hot take," Merriam Websters is helpful. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hot%20take

I think if one actually spent time perusing "trending topics," the distinction would be quite apparent. There is a difference between people providing information about, for example, how to book a particular ticket or whether a hotel offers a particular service, and a 300-post thread of people sharing their generic thoughts about how service on XYZ is awful these days, or responding to some news/blog article. The latter was more likely to qualify as a "trending" topic.

I am sorry to see so many only found participation in the latter useful, but I imagine that isnt the majority of FT users, despite the vociferousness expressed in this thread.

It seems like your beef was mainly with the algorithm?.

While I thought the algorithm could have benefited from some tweaking, the main value to me was having a curated batch of threads to explore when I had a few minutes.
