Error Message when updating Wiki

Hi

I (and several other members who have tried independently) get this error message when we try to update the BA Fleet Status Wiki (BA Fleet Status)

Error: Call to undefined function each() in /usr/share/pear/Text/Diff/Engine/native.php on line 195

The problem started on Friday and while people have been able to do singular updates (changing aircraft positions etc) on some parts of the Wiki, once you try more than 1 change or line item the error pops up.

Seeing the same thing,
Error: Call to undefined function each() in /usr/share/pear/Text/Diff/Engine/native.php on line 195
when attempting to edit the wiki at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...es-awards.html

The error doesn’t occur 100% of the time. I can enter edit mode, make no changes, and save without any problem. I was also able just now to edit a different wiki in the Chase forum and save changes after making substantive edits.

I agree with Pilot37 that this bug is of relatively recent vintage. I make a lot of wiki edits & have not encountered this problem until today.

FWIW, am using Safari/iPadOS.

We are aware and it i on our list of fixes

Perhaps related, perhaps not: I am also seeing cases where expanding the wiki doesn’t actually show the entire wiki (and there’s no way to see the omitted portion at the end without going into the editor). See the Booking American Awards wiki I linked to above for an example.

Hi

Just wondering is there a timeline for the fix to go in?

Thanks, Pilot37

No timeline as of yet. When you get the error, are you on a mobile device/skin? Or desktop?

I see it in the desktop interface.

I'm seeing the same problem when editing the wiki in https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-...22-yyz-do.html

I have recreated the problem using both the desktop and mobile skins

Just did some updates to the Hilton properties joining/leaving-wiki. No error at all. Each() and every modification went smoothly. Has the 'line 195' related error been fixed?

Update: not it has not been fixed. But it looks like it works fine if you press "Edit" without first using "Click here to display Full Wiki". At least, today it did.

Unfortunately, that work around is not helping on my Wiki, I still get the error code when I try to add any info (deleting a single string of data seems to be okay). A timeline for the fix would be appreciated.

Also still seeing error if I edit without expanding first. All I tried to do was delete some extra CRLFs; computer says no.

I’m getting this message on my iPhone consistently when trying to edit a wiki

You bet, getting that same error again.

However, somehow I keep being able to move a hotel from one section to another ('opening soon' to 'now open'), even today. But similar modification (like changing the order of two short lines) will resort in the error.

In a quest to find a temprorary workaround, maybe we have to check FlyerTalk Forums - Recent Wikipost Changes and ask them why they managed to submit the change.

I am also receiving the error on the https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/comm...22-2023-a.html thread.

Desktop or mobile? Desktop
Reproduced in multiple browsers? Which do/don’t work (we at least need to know the initial browser)? Does not work in Chrome
Steps to reproduce the issue: Edit wiki => Submit/save
Reproduced on incognito mode/private window? N/A - cannot edit wiki without logging in
When did this problem start? Two days ago

I was out yesterday, but thsi was still being worked on

IBJoel Dec 15, 2022 11:17 am

Wikiposts should now work correctly

GW McLintock Dec 15, 2022 11:23 am

The wiki on my above-referenced thread is now gone

Assuming the developers are able to fix this before NYE, they (and you, of course) are invited to the virtual party :)

IBJoel Dec 15, 2022 11:40 am

Yep, I've asked tech what's up

KARFA Dec 15, 2022 11:55 am

Yes, wikis just disappeared from some of my threads too, with the same thing shown as noted by GW McLintock

beltway Dec 15, 2022 12:07 pm

Just checked: same fate for the wiki I mentioned at the top of the thread. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Flying Machine Dec 15, 2022 1:28 pm

LAX happy hour wiki is gone as well! Gosh, I put some work into that! Will it be restored?

Thank you guys for confirming. I have tech taking a look at this

DELee Dec 15, 2022 5:10 pm

Confirming that other threads are missing their wikis.

Example:James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) - 12/22/21 launch

David

LoganFlyer Dec 15, 2022 6:31 pm

In addition to missing Wikis, I'm unable to edit Wikis in various threads. An example of my own thread I can't edit the wiki in: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delt...readsheet.html

Just found this thread in search of the same issue. I don't see the edit button on the following threads
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delt...hread-100.html
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delt...thread-53.html

Happening on Chrome, desktop, if that is useful detail.

Update: wiki content for the above thread now shows at the top of the thread in the "FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides" section dated Dec 31, 69, 4:00 pm.

However, the thread name/link as shown in the forum does not indicate the thread has a wiki and the wiki is not editable.

David

GW McLintock Dec 15, 2022 8:20 pm

The wikis are back, but they cannot be edited.

They also do not shorten, so you see the entire thing. This is problematic on some threads (example: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...on-etc-33.html) where the wiki contains a LOT of information and images.

I'm still showing both, The Complete Guide to the Turkish Airlines Fleet and The Complete Guide to the Qatar Airways Fleet wiki's gone.

IBJoel Dec 16, 2022 8:27 am

UGH, thank you everyone. I've let tech know about all these bugs

IBJoel Dec 16, 2022 9:22 am

Editing is back, tech said the other issues will likely be fixed on Monday

GW McLintock Dec 16, 2022 10:00 am

Thank you! I was successfully able to edit the wiki on my DO thread. You and the dev team are invited to the party :)

There are two buttons now next to the edit button, "Lock" and "Hide" -- I can see these on threads/wikis I started, as well as on those I have not. I'm hoping this doesn't mean someone can arbitrarily lock or hide the wiki on my thread. If implemented properly, I think these would be great enhancements (to semi-permanently hide a wiki, or to lock it from future editing).

I’m not seeing the wiki for the LAX Happy our thread, FYI I’m using my iPhone. I remember when I initiated it I had to use my laptop. Any thoughts, or anyone near a laptop desktop whom can take a peek?

I am able to view in Chrome/Windows

Interestingly, it appears this wikipost retained its "See More" button

Thanks, I’ll look over the weekend Via my laptop to try to reinstate it because I can’t see it on my iPhone. Thanks for the quick reply. Happy holidays!

I see them, too—and I hate Hate HATE that the mechanism for expanding a wiki has now been relegated to a “Show more >>>” link in regular type at the left. COME ON. Regular users wanting to view the wiki is a far more common action than editing or anything else; it absolutely needs to be more prominent & its own full-fledged button. (Maybe hire someone who understands the concept of UX, because whoever is making these changes clearly has no earthly clue.)

I don’t understand at all what these are supposed to be doing. IIRC, mods can already lock a wiki using tooling available only to them. And when I click Hide, it just displays the word Hidden but seems to do nothing else—as opposed to the “^” button for rolling up a wiki into not displaying even the first few lines.

If the IB keyboard-tappers have so much free time, I suggest they stop “improving” things with this sort of inexplicable change and instead fix the numerous ways in which the wikis got broken years ago. The lossage from that previous round of “enhancements” was reported many times by me & others but never, ever dealt with. (I’ll happily recite the breakage types exactly one more time, but only if I get a commitment that someone will finally make a run at fixing them.)

TLDR: if you won’t fix the stuff you broke before, please stop. Every round of changes makes things worse.
