I hope these issues can be fixed soon. It seems others have already noted all the problems I'm running into (no history, goofy cut-off for 'show more'), but so far they are still all present. Perhaps understandable given the US holiday. If that is the case, the changes should have been held until after the holiday, but alas.

I am holding off from some wiki edits until they are resolved.

The easy fix, at least in any competent coding group, would be to immediately roll back all the changes to the status quo ante. Once that’s done, the room of infinite monkeys can go back to the drawing board to do bug fixes (and, PLEASE GOD, a few rounds of testing) at their leisure.

IBJoel Dec 30, 2022 1:16 pm

So I have an open bug report of the cancel button functioning as a save button. I've also asked if a rollback is feasible. However, that will reintroduce the bugs from before, at least in the short-term

Those bugs were much better than these bugs. So yes please to rollback!

Hard agree. This is not a close call. Yes, the previous code had significant issues, but I’ll take 80% functionality over 55%—being generous here—any day.

"Cancel" button now works again

raising several issues here...

You can see what I think is the same bug in the wiki at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/inte...astercard.html. The collapsed wiki cuts off the text in the middle of a word—which is another problem in itself—and inserts a carriage return mid-word (anniversar CRLF y) when the wiki is expanded.

1. I noticed an apparently-truncated wiki at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...-wikipost.html

and what it has in common with the IHG page above is that the "show more" cutoff is in the middle of a LIST element if you view the source.

The "report spam" wiki in fact had a series of nested LISTs -- each bullet item opened a new LIST tag and then there were a string of /LIST at the end. I deleted the nested tags and that seems to have fixed the truncation problem, although because the "show more" ... happens in the middle of the list, it looks weird when you expand it (similar to the IHG thread)

That's exactly the issue I was having. In my case, the cut was after a comma, but I think it was just a coincidence based on the number of characters that were displayed when the wiki was collapsed.

The wiki on the referenced AC thread actually looks pretty normal, formatting wise -- out of curiosity, was the cut here previously in the middle of a bulleted list also?

2. btw the AC link highlights another deficiency of the new wiki "product" -- https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-...a-cowtool.html

the "Show more" link does not appear in a consistent location from one thread to another (on that AC thread it appears in the center of the page whereas in others it is on the lower left), and since it is the exact size and color as the rest of the regular wiki text, and does not change color or become underlined until you hover over it, this means you sometimes have to search around for a while until you find it. Whereas before, I remember the link being pretty prominent and easy to locate.

3. speaking of consistency, why is this entire wiki shown all at once? https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delt...2-changes.html

Although it does have a "Show more" link at the bottom, clicking on it results in absolutely nothing happening (other than changing to "Show less") -- the whole wiki content was already displayed to begin with. Clicking on "Show less" does remove one blank line at the end :p

Broken Marriott Wiki

Is there a reason the Wiki at https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...ll-call-2.html is not shown correctly, after being expanded?

shows ok for me, using an iPad.

IBJoel Jan 6, 2023 9:39 am

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with it on desktop, either.

DELee Jan 6, 2023 7:35 pm

This is likely what CPRich is referring to:

Wiki initial (prior to selecting "Show More" (red box):
Wiki after "show more" - errors boxed in red as well:
Generated in Chrome. Same behavior seen in Firefox. Also confirmed in Incognito Mode.

Zorak Jan 9, 2023 12:34 am

I see the same thing as shown in DELee's screenshots.

this seems similar to issue #2 I reported in my post in the "Errors editing wiki" thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tech...l#post34894118

except in this case it's in the middle of a CODE block instead of a LIST. It seems that whoever wrote the new wiki functionality failed to account for the possibility that the "..." cutoff for the "Show more" might appear in the middle of an open bbcode tag.

beltway Jan 11, 2023 12:27 pm

It appears that there’s no longer an edit button on the wikis.

I can edit on my iPhone, however the date still shows August 19 22 whenever I have recently edited for thr LAX happy hour thread

IBJoel Jan 11, 2023 3:06 pm

We had limited options in regards to how to restrict editing to "good" users. It is now tied to being part of Coupon Connection. You have both CC and Omni access, so try incognito/private browsing? It's possible there was some kind of cache blooper

DELee Jan 12, 2023 12:54 am

Another broken wiki: Building a UA city pair BIS table

Also missing edit capability.

As noted over in Broken Marriott Wiki thread, wiki for https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...bis-table.html is broken too - with no edit button. Going to incognito/private does nothing.

This may prove to be troublesome for those such as myself who use wikis to plan DOs and other events (notwithstanding having to move my DO thread to OMNI like last time ). For those who had trouble using wikis in the past, I've always encouraged them to post in the thread and let me (or anyone else) update the wiki on their behalf, and in practice this has been a successful workaround.

So previously, wikiposts already required 90 days on the site and 90 posts to edit. This is a relatively small increase that should not effect that many users

Able now again to see the edit button - haven't tried to test editing yet.

However, the error noted in https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/34900526-post94.html and https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/34916889-post100.html still persists.

Any time I finish editing a wiki and click to save, I get an HTTP 500 error: Also note the URL it resolves to in the screenshot below

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b3a7b50d7e.jpg

Apologies IBJoel for not using your format but I don't have it in front of me... I am using Chrome. This is not replicable in incognito mode as it requires logging in. Standard conditions apply.

The 500 errors are being looked at. They're occurring as a larger problem

Quite the understatement.

Wiki was updated recently though the date is totally wrong.

As I think I mentioned earlier, each wiki now has two date stamps, one up top (creation date, I think, which is sometimes a random 1969 or 2069(?) date) and one at the bottom (last edit). I don’t remember that being the case before.

The combination of no yellow background, tiny font, and wikis sometimes being hidden seems to be causing a rash of new members to ask "where's the wiki?"

Zorak Feb 10, 2023 7:39 am

Forget if this has been mentioned previously, but indented bullet points are no longer indented if they appear below the "show more" link

Example thread:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delt...k-threads.html

Here's what it looks like when editing:

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...204e9bc415.png

Here's what it looks like when viewing, after clicking on "show more"

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...387922f4e8.png

Note that the bullets under DTW are still indented, but HND and JFK etc. are not.

It's also still doing the thing where the editor adds a blank bullet point to the last list in the wiki whenever you click "Edit"

At first blush, the compare-versions feature seems to be an improvement: edits are interleaved & smartly color-coded instead of being presented side by side (which didn’t wrap long lines & was therefore not very useful). It remains to be seen how well this works on long/complicated wikis.

Has the history been re-broken?

Using this wiki https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delt...k-threads.html

if I do this
I get this
(i.e. nothing, really).

The only way I get something is if I do this
and then I don't believe that what it reports is correct
partly because if I tweak it to this
it appears to be the same result
which seems similarly unlikely.

Honestly, until we can get full support of this product from the central dev team, I think this is about as good as it's going to get. If you can't compare the current version with a previous version, then I can take a look.

wiki won't show or expand to show the whole wiki for this thread., when viewed on Windows desktop
it *IS* viewable on Android.

only way to view it is to click "print" button next to the HIDE button, and it switches over to an AOL-looking 90's version of flyertalk style to show the contents.
VERY weird

serpens Mar 17, 2023 8:51 am

I cannot think why it would matter, but I see you were the last person to edit that wiki. I had no trouble expanding it in Firefox on macOS. (And that formatting after clicking the Print button is ugly.)

yeah i clicked edit and then backed out of it, but it saved it as a "change" even with nothing new.
Weird that it won't show the whole wiki. In particular the same questions as are answered in the wiki keep getting asked by new posts, hence the wiki exists, but it's frustrating if people can't see the obvious answers some of us put in the wiki
