How to post photos

corky Aug 30, 2020 12:23 pm

Photos that I post from my phone end up being gigantic. I don't see how to resize them to normal.

We do not currently have a re-sizing tool and photos will simply shrink to fit our largest size. You can, however, re-size on your phone and post.

I am pretty sure that other people aren't resizing first. Is that my only option?

You'd have to give me a link to an example, but there is also the possibility that it's just how your phone takes photos compared to others' phones. My photo above is a bit big, I feel, but not gigantic (may also depend yon your screen size, as it obviously takes up more real estate on mobile than laptop).

I do think your test one is pretty giant. It is funny because if I send someone a photo or post a photo on FB, it is normal size. I will try to find an example.

what happened to the 20 or so photos I had posted here?

I think I originally posted them as links from photobucket and then re-posted them using the direct upload photo icon.

Now 2 years later all the photos but one have disappeared?

You didn't. You used Imgur and [img ] tags, which then became outdated because Imgur now uses https, whereas you used http. I manually changed all of them.

Thank you

Does this forum actually support bbcode image tags? Every time I try to use them, I end up with a mangled mess of mis-sized, duplicated images.

Yeah, just use the filer uploader

That's disappointing when I have a large list of BB-encoded image URLs ready to go. Oh well.

The file uploader does have URL copy/paste, so shouldn't need to do too terribly much

Having to do that 20+ times is non-trivial. I just spent an hour running through this exercise, while generating the original, bbcode took all of 5 minutes.

Most of the photos seem to be gone again? I'm not sure what happened.

Photo tool does not work. It gets cut off by new top bar. Cannot add images. Very annoying.

There is a picture tutorial in this post: A comprehensive guide to clicking the upload button, which is unnecessarily complicated.

I'm just going to use the old [IMG ... /IMG] system when putting in photos.

This is a silly and stupid problem. Simple solution: revert to the old header until it can be resolved without inspecting the code.

The banner is nice and all, but it's all form over function; it cuts off the area where one has to click to post a picture.

Used the INSPECT, "Global header", DELETE NODE method to upload this screen shot.
I wouldn't call this user friendly, or particularly aesthetically pleasing!!

I find pretty much every time I press "reply to thread", or the arrow for the last post in a topic, the Web page on my Android phone (Chrome) freezes for 15 secs minimum.
May or may not suddenly do something after that point.

Sometimes the same thing when composing a message. The cursor vanishes whilst the page is locked up.

Why not remove the ridiculous new banner which is causing so many problems? Is there no fix for this problem beyond breaking down the code?

If you disable infinite scrolling under "Edit Option" in MyFlyerTalk, you can scroll down until the banner disappears; then, there are no issues with uploading images.

Thanks. Will try this. Please let us know, though, when infinite scrolling can be restored while keeping the ability to post pictures.

JfromTheBay Oct 30, 2021 7:48 pm

Infinite scroll worked thanks..

Last night I can't upload one capture screen with my post (and almost gived up) until I checked the flyertalk forum tech, and stopped the infinite scroll mode, how can be this automatic settings so unfriendly activated or this banner activated without consideration about that problem ?

Not everybody have skill with technology, maybe it will be great that the FT technical staff think a little more about it (we call that ergonomy ).

Trying to upload a photo in a review and am getting an error "check server permissions"... anybody going through the same? Temp issue or has it been going on awhile? Or could it be on my end (tried multiple photos, less than 2 megs, also tried different browsers)

TWA884, thanks for the "Disable infinite scrolling" idea, that seems to have stop the banner from blocking the uploading images button.

Still, I agree with MatthewLAX, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. 🤦

I'm certainly not going to run to imgur or flickr to upload couple photos then do all the extra coding junk to help someone answer a 5 sec question.

Now a TR, I would use imgur or flickr because TR have to be drafted in advance.
Simple post replies, I don't

I have also been having this problem since one month in hotel reviews. I seem to be able to add them in other posts but not in hotel reviews. I tried turning off the infinite scrolling that was causing issues in other areas, but that did not resolve the issue.

cbellero Dec 12, 2021 5:02 am

The photo posting to hotel reviews seem to be working again for me. It works slightly differently than before, but is functioning.

why does it do the thing where you can only upload a batch and not move them? this is another terrible experience.

I still can't upload normal size photo as everything is being compacted to the size of a thumbnail.
Below the post table I see this:

BB code is On

Why IMG and HTML code is off??

HTML is off because when it's on, people can set-up page hijacks in their posts. BB Code functions very similarly, but is much less of a security threat.

From your recent posts, it looks like you're uploading from Flickr and something they use is interacting with our site unexpectedly. I would encourage you to try uploading a test image from your computer or from another site.

moondog Feb 3, 2023 10:53 am

Are there any plans to allow users to post images by pasting screencaps or image files? This is would be much more convenient than going through the upload routine; many websites have been on the program for several years already.

IBJoel Feb 3, 2023 11:18 am

You can drag and drop direclty into a post. Is that what you mean?

But there are not any plans to change the uploader at this time. The biggest reason we actually developed it was because people would copy/paste or attach photos from elsewhere, then that site would change its policy or delete the photo and they'd disappear and everyne would be confused

No. I mean copy and paste directly into the message body (like you can do with most web-based email systems or messaging apps).

I never thought about the copy/paste from other sites issue. I'm a fan of screenshots myself (unless I'm aiming for super high resolution) because the drill is super fast (as long as you don't need to save them to a local folder and upload them).
