Wow! Now CruiseCritic doesn't look like a cheaper version of Flyertalk!

Not being able to easily see which posts are new is pretty annoying. I see nothing new that is in anyway better.

I can't create a link in a reply, whether I type the display text that I want to become the link first or if I try to create a link and dictate in the dialogue what my display text will be. The dialogue opens and the "OK" button shows in green but clicking on it in either scenario doesn't create a link. I eventually have to press the "Cancel" button and then I receive a message at the top of the page:

"You have changed some options. Are you sure you want to close the dialog window?"

I am running Google Chrome 65.0.3325.181 (Official Build) (64-bit) on a PC that has Microsoft Windows 10 Pro as the OS, version 1709, OS build 16299.248

I can't read the forum names and thread titles well. Too small. Not bold.

Can FT members be told what is driving these changes and if any testing is being done before roll out?

Buster Mar 26, 2018 5:31 pm

Why are the fonts for the forums that have subforums so small? For example, the font for "Information Desk" is 4x the size of the font for the forum title "Airlines and Mileage Programs." Add to it that the informational subheader is BIGGER than the actual forum name for "Hotels and Places to Stay," and the whole site looks like a weird mishmash of random fonts and font sizes. I had to ctrl - to make the font size readable within the forums, but then that means that the forum name for "Airlines and Mileage Programs" is too small to read. The "last post" line is also too small and weirdly bolded, so it's very hard to read.

I'd also like to request something that isn't so bright white - I'm getting a headache looking at this and it's hurting my eyes.

Why didn't we have some kind of "preview" team or beta testing where feedback from users can be sought before releasing? A lot of UI issues and bugs can easily be addressed prior to site wide roll out.

Others mentioned the issues already - but my main issue is lack of contrast to discern different sections throughout this site. Here is just one sample of how the design is not well thought out making the site very difficult to follow. The borders are way too light and when looking at a list of say 20+ threads at normal distance I have to put in some effort to identify the rows. Almost like looking at a spreadsheet with no borders. The site design needs quite bit of help and might be good to really spend time testing different shading/thickness and contrasts.

Horrific redesign. Hard to read fonts and blindingly white. It's time to enable themes so that we can go back to a usable site as this is just horrendous.

Horrid. Add a “Dislike” so I can officially dislike the whole thing. It’s awful and hard on the eyes.

Be that as it may, when I am reading FT on my smartphone (which has a reasonably large screen) although I personally am fine with the mobile skin in most cases, I frequently want to switch to the desktop skin for various reasons
  • better search interface
  • viewing a poster's profile inline with the thread for context, seeing their posting history etc (I could go to their profile page first in mobile but that's more clicks)
  • better handling of posted images (can't zoom in on an image in mobile, but I can force it in desktop mode)
  • vague feeling that some plug-in content (YouTube, Twitter?) still doesn't work in mobile so you have to switch it to desktop to view it (unless this has been fixed?)

Therefore, I used the "switch to desktop" button at the bottom of the page and then switch back to mobile rather often, but that button is now gone. Please bring it back.

Two things I've noticed after a few minutes use:

1) In a forum "home" page the titles of threads is too small for me to read easily. Never used to be a problem.

2) Scanning a thread is difficult. The structural markers dividing one post from another, inline quotes, etc seem to be too subtle / similar.

I expected to spend longer doing a bit of evening catching up (1am UK), but reading it is too tiring so I'll head to bed and see if its easier in the morning.

My eyes! They burn from all the white space! :o

The one enhancement that I like in the mobile skin is it now shows the most recent poster for a given thread. Thanks! Easy to see if I'm waiting for a reply from a specific user.

The "insert link" dialog is broken in mobile.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...063a09426b.png
the green button can be clicked, but nothing happens as a result, the dialog just sits there and you have to cancel out of it.

Clicked on those drop-down menus just in case, but they are defective somehow:

So the only way to insert a clickable link in mobile is to click over to Source mode and use URL tags manually.

Great QA/regression testing job as usual, guys

Readability is reduced by lighter-colored lettering!

Not only is there too much white space, but it seems the default font color is medium gray instead of black. Using light-colored lettering (on a white background) is NOT GOOD for readability!

Nicoolio Mar 26, 2018 6:27 pm

aesthetically very nice - practically not sure -- doesn't seem as intuitive - which threads are fresh, etc. Also, not as easy to read.
